When the owner of Bally Regional Sports Networks filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, both YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV removed Bally Sports Sun from their free channel lineup. I had read that Bally Regional Sports Networks offered an app Bally Sports+ which was to be available for $19.99 per month to allow Rays and Lightning fans to watch the broadcasts on Bally Sports Sun, however this may have been old news from prior to the bankruptcy filing. Has anybody out there been able to watch the Rays last season or the Lightning this season by streaming on YouTube TV?

First, to answer your question, no I could not get Rays games on YouTube-TV this past season. I was able to get the Baily Sports Sun app for $19.99 a month, as you mentioned. Since I was only interested in watching the Rays, I was going to cancel my monthly subscription after the season. Instead, they offered to let me suspend my service for up to 6 months and start it again at the beginning of the next season in April. There were no charges involved and it makes it easier just to resume watching the games next spring, rather that signing up again. If I change my mind, I can just cancel my subscription at no cost.

Thanks for replying. That was the answer I was kinda expecting. Unfortunately, that monthly fee cuts into the potential savings of moving from cable to streaming, making it less advantageous to cut the cord.
Right now, the Rays are paying the cost of broadcasting games on Bally even though they are not being paid some or all of what Bally Sports owes them. I can't imagine that will go on forever, so I will be monitoring the news to see what transpires on the bankruptcy filing. MLB has vowed to step in if necessary to insure that games are broadcast for all teams affected by Bally Sports' actions. |
