I would not call her and the women that went up with her astronauts though. That implies serious training in many areas. Years of training and service.
Sorry, I never heard of Gayle King before this joyride. How serious can she be? Does she go to Great America too? Universal Studios? Now the real pioneers were the first commercial flight passengers. That was scary. Talk to the Gemi astronauts.

So I know I brought up this subject, but I didn't really mean to pick on Katy Perry.

15 years ago, my GF's daughter had a best friend in High School, dying from a very rare form of cancer. The young girl's "goal in life", was to graduate from High School ... she never made it.

Early in her Senior Year, she was in Children's Hospital in Boston. Her Mom got a call one afternoon. Katy Perry was in Boston for an event and would like to visit with her daughter at the hospital. Katy's staff explained the young girl was welcome to invite one of her friends to visit, but her mother was asked to maintain complete secrecy and not tell anyone, especially the Press, about what was going on. (It's possible the "Make a Wish" foundation or some group like that was involved, I don't know those details.)

My GF's daughter was the "friend" who was invited. Katy Perry showed up without an entourage, sat around & chatted & sang with the 2 girls for over an hour.

So whatever Katy Perry is in her "public persona", she's a pretty good person in real life.

This was Bezos just playing with his billions. These women were given the privilege of a once in a lifetime ride due to their status. Just wealthy, connected, or influential riders on a very expensive amusement park ride.

Actually there were two scientists on that trip.

Hydrogen and Oxygen = steam/water vapor.

Default First All Women Space Crew - Fact Check - FALSE!

The first solo spaceflight by a woman was made by Valentina Tereshkova, a Soviet cosmonaut, on June 16, 1963.

She flew aboard Vostok 6, becoming not only the first woman in space but also the only woman to ever fly solo in space. Her mission lasted almost three days (71 hours), during which she orbited the Earth 48 times.

She famously said, "Hey sky, take off your hat, I’m on my way!" before launching. Absolute icon.

Well with this line of thinking, I'm an airline pilot because I rode in an airplane, I'm a ship captain because I've been on a cruise ship, and I'm a race car driver because I sat in a race car. Yep, sounds about right to me....lol

,
Actually, Musk is looking to buy the International Space Station when they de-commision it in 2030. Wants to turn it into a restaurant. Will have great food, but no atmosphere.

To me, a rescue mission would have been put together as quickly as possible and would have been outside the normal mission schedule. Everything I can find says this mission was previously scheduled. *Perhaps* the equipment was switched from an unmanned supply capsule to a crew capsule, but I can't find anything to suggest that this happened.

I wonder if a true, emergency rescue mission was refused and the XXX reasons looked more like $XXB. Sure, a company would certainly accept several truckloads of money to be a hero but is that the best use of NASA's money if the astronauts can do good work while waiting for a non-emergency, scheduled mission?
I thought the astronauts chose the saver option. Musk has had things blowing up of late. Not sure when these failures were happening though.

11 minutes does not make these Divas an astronaut, more like a tourist.

Probably add booster and head for mars. Be the inline hotel for Mars.

Good grief. They did choose the safe option after Boeing lost all credibility. The Falcon 9 rocket has a better than 99% success rate. The newest version, the Block 5 has a 99.75% success rate. These are the rockets that are launching at a rate of two or three a week from both coasts at roughly half the cost of the competition. You should be happy at the money he is saving us taxpayers. The only recent mishaps that I recall are a second stage booster failed to get its Starlink payload into the correct orbit. And a first stage booster fell over off a drone ship after landing.
The only thing that has blown up is the Starship which is still an experimental rocket that is not even for hire yet.
