Prayers for Pittsburgh
A very strong material.
The Steelmark logo belonging to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) came to be associated with Pittsburgh. The Steelmark was originally created for United States Steel Corporation to promote the attributes of steel: yellow lightens your work; orange brightens your leisure; and blue widens your world. The logo's meaning was later amended to represent the three materials used to produce steel: yellow for coal; orange for iron ore; and blue for steel scrap.

My proximity means nothing, but the hatred is becoming so wide spread, it will eventually hit close to us all. Labeling of people is vicious and mean. All the discussion of "groups" etc have an effect on people and imaginethe effect on those of weak minds... "But it's important to recognize that the people we label as "black," "white," "rich," poor," smart," and "simple," seem blacker, whiter, richer, poorer, smarter, and simpler merely because we've labeled them so. When I heard this I immediately thought of you and hoped it would not touch you personally. But it has touched all of us personally. Sending love to you and Pittsburgh.

Text for the Mourner's Kaddish
Text for the Mourner's Kaddish for the Tree of Life Congregation
Glorified and sanctified be God’s great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen. May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen. May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.

Say their names. These are real people. Real victims of real hate. Hate whipped up by claims that Jews are supporting an invasion of this country. Claims that Jews are using their $$$ to buy the election. This is as old as the Protocols of Zion and as new as the Speaker of the House. Hate speech has consequences. Whether it is Kristallnacht or Pittsburgh.
Say their names Daniel Stein Joyce Feinberg Richard Gottfried Rose Mallinger Jerry Rabinowitz Cecil Rosenthal David Rosenthal Bernice Simon Sylvan Simon Melvin Wax Irving Younger May their memory be for a blessing.

Cecil and David Rosenthal--54 and 59; developmentally disabled brothers who lived in a Jewish house for the disabled and worked, beloved at both places. Going to services was a highlight of their week. Their sister helped care for them. Bernice and Sylvan Simon--married couple in late 80s who came in from a suburb for services. Jerry Rabinowitz--66, my brother-in-law's friend, a physician of the "old school" who truly cared for his patients and gave a lot of care to those with AIDS. Rose Mallinger--97, alive during the holocaust but not a holocaust survivor as previously reported. Vivacious, energetic, well known in the shopping district. Joyce Feinberg--75, grew up in Toronto, researcher at Pitt until retiring. She came to the synagogue every day to pray for her husband, who died in 2016. Richard Gottfried--65, a dentist who came in from a northern suburb. Known for serving non-insured and underinsured patients. Melvin Wax--88, became hard of hearing, lived simply in an apartment building of elderly Jews, a community within the community, and loved watching the Pirates, win or lose.
