They have a great library and Mardi Gras parade.
Penneys is closing in the mall. All the main car dealerships are in Leesberg and quite a few furniture stores.

Their downtown area is very pleasant.

There is a very well-run doggy day-care and overnight and grooming facility called Pet Lodge and Spa in Leesburg.

Leesburg is a pleasant city. It has many activities centered around the downtown square that many times focus on children. For example, there is a big Halloween party on Main Street for the kids...rides, entertainment, and the businesses pass out treats. The streets are packed with costumed children, their parents, relatives, and those who just like to have fun and dress up. Local dance studios and schools often perform on the town square. The city also has movie nights on the Square. During the Christmas season, the city decorates it's big park located at Venetian Gardens with thousands and thousands of lights, animated scenes, and music. Yes, Leesburg is a nice city.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I believe the original poster was asking about the 55+ community just south of Leesburg called "Legacy of Leesburg".

I have good friends who live there and like it.

Of course, it is not The Villages....what is? That being said, it is a nice community with a large activity center, etc. It is known for their nature walks, etc.

Cable and lightning fast internet, lawn mowing, etc, is included in their HOA fees. It is a gated community, you need to know "the code" to get in, or you "buzz" someone you know who lives there to let you in.

They do not have a golf course. Some folks prefer a "non-golf" community.

It is in an area where there are many other 55+ communities within a few mile radius....The Plantation of Leesburg, Arlington Ridge, Highland Lakes, Royal Highlands, Hawthorne, etc,etc....

Hope that helps....

Respectfully, Frank D.

Small world. I lived in Legacy of Leesburg for 8 years; moved to FL in 2005 and The Villages came in 3rd place for me then, built a new home in Legacy. The Villages is first now - we are closing on a new Designer home in Gilchrist in 10 days, it's just about done. Sold my home in Legacy -quickly- in Dec. Used homes (and some new) avail for low 100s to 300K. All stucco and single family 55+.

Legacy was a very nice community - 1,000 homes, very well kept - and a nature community - lots of open space and nature areas. It's a 20 min drive from TV Brownwood. Legacy is 8 miles N of the Turnpike ent/exit on Rt 27. Nice Social Hall, tennis, pickleball, bocci, and gorgeous outdoor heated pool, no golf but some nearby. Quite a few social events and clubs.

On the downside, there is not much shopping/activity nearby on Rt27. There is Publix/Winn Dixie etc in strip malls - but need to go to 441 Leesburg, downtown Leesburg, Clermont (south 1/2 hr) or TV. We went to TV at least weekly - and it 'called to us' all the time...

Legacy HOA is $195mo - incl cable and lawn cutting along with activity things etc. It is a very nice place to reside, esp if one desires a more quiet, bit less expensive, and lower-key 'rural' lifestyle. One can get a very good price on well built homes there as well; they are still building some new too.

OK, we're on our way to TV soon to check our house for the last time before Closing... Happy Campers we are...

Thanks for all the helpful information on the retirement community, The Legacy of Leesburg. It's most helpful to hear from those who have first hand experience. Any additional information is always welcome and appreciated.
