Default Lake Okahumpka Park

Lake Okahumpka Park, a Sumter County park on CR44 between Morse Blvd and Buena Vista is a nice place close to The Villages for walking. My 12 year old poodle and I walk there most days as he prefers to walk and sniff rather than to play in the dog park.

The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and has plenty of free parking. There are paved walking trails, at least half in the shade of trees. The park is well maintained and pleasant place to stroll. I have seen people with assistive devices including walkers and wheelchairs using the paths. Dogs are allowed on leash and there are several pet waste stations as well as a small fenced dog exercise area.

Playground, exercise stations along the walkways, frisbee golf and beach volleyball courts may also make this a good place to bring grandchildren. There are also two bathroom facilities, although I have not used to be able to comment on their condition.

Thank you for sharing the link to the park's webpage.

Note location is on SR44. Take Morse Blvd south past Rohan Recreation to SR44 and turn right. Park is on the left after the turn for SR 44A. From Buena Vista or Brownwood, take a left onto SR44 and park will be on your right.

The playground there is very nice and well kept. Keep in mind it is not shaded at all, so if you're bringing youngsters, pack the sunscreen. The bathrooms are basic and clean, but not bug free.

We take our dog to that park. He's had a number of ticks.

Default Flea & Tick Prevention

If you're new to FL and think your pets won't get fleas & ticks....you'd best enroll them in a monthly or whatever cycle of pest prevention if not none already. Anywhere you take your pets, to include your yard, are susceptible for both fleas & ticks.

This is lovely park & used to have a deputy sheriff reside in the on premises mobile home. Unsure now.

The Lake - Fishing & hunting by boat is available ONLY if you've got small boats. The water is down drastically so other than canoe or kayak limits launching a power boat....unless you have an airboat or mud bug motor. There is a pond accessible that can be seen from 44 that you could walk to and fish. Be aware of your surroundings.
