Default Shortest Route

When my daughter was down here last week from Raleigh NC, she put her address in her GPS when she was leaving here and was taken a different way instead of the usual 301 to 10 to 295 to 95.

She said she eventually wound up on 301 but pretty far up and she did not go on 475 or 75. Does anyone know of a shortcut like that as I am heading up to Raleigh next week.

Most GPS units can be programmed either shortest route or fastest route. If you are traveling from here to NC I would think the fastest route would be better. Shortest route will take you on any road so your travel is less miles, not considering the speed limits, etc. The fastest route will take you on Interstate roads and considers the speed more important, less travel time.

Default Shortest Route

I am aware of the different modes on the GPS but according to my daughter she shaved 30 minutes off the drive time taking this route. I think it has something to do with route 24 but not sure. She is GPS illiterate

The best way we have found to get up to I 95 is 441 to 42 to 19 (Altoona) to 17 in Palatka, on up to Orange Park where you will get on 295 around Jacksonville. Not everyone likes this route as they don't care to go through the Ocala National Forest. We have found the roads there to be easy to travel, with few stops and little traffic. 301 is notorius for its speed traps in Lawtey and Waldo but folks don't seem to mind going that way. Try a couple of different routes to see which one you like best. Most GPS units take you up 301 but it will reprogram itself if you veer off course and go another way. We have used the above route for 13 years and wouldn't consider any other way. I'm not sure it's the "shortest" or even the "fastest" but it is very relaxing and comfortable.

Follow 301 North until u come to Callahan, Fl...In Callahan instead off following 301 to the left at the traffic light, continue straight through the intersection and that becomes A1A. Follow it for about 12 to 15 miles and you will intersect with I95 about 20 miles above Jacksonville and apporoximately 6 miles from the Georgia state line.

Bob, that's a puzzler. Looking at a map, the only logical route I can spot that would seem to follow your parameters would be if she took 27/441 north out of TV until she hit 301 up by Belleview. But that doesn't really mesh with the "....pretty far up...." part before she got on 301.
