I am more worried about drunken drivers and some idiot with a gun taking the law into his or her own hands.

An event that would open Coleman prison for escapes would probably affect much of the Villages and we would have a lot more to worry about.

...just curious.
Literally adjacent property lines on the north side of the prison property — Village of McClure. FCC has a lot of trees on their north side — and razor wire and a wall.

There is a Camp for men. They are not confined 24 hours a day and perform duties across the site. Obviously any one of them could escape very easily but hardly any will since they would be given more time in a medium or high correction facility.

On the positive side, can you imagine the traffic congestion if the property of Coleman was instead developed by the The Villages?

How Are Minimum-Security Prisons Different from Other Prisons?
Minimum-security federal prisons are different than higher-security prisons in many ways. Perhaps most significantly, there are often no barriers between the camp and the outside world.

With no fences, walls, or razor wire, minimum-security federal prisoners can simply walk away if they choose. Very few campers ever walk away. This is due to the near-certainty of recapture and the wealth of negative consequences of escaping from federal prison.

I would be more concerned with who isn't behind the bars. The inmates offer minimal threat to outsiders. Now their visitors may be another story? As they drive through the non secured gates of The Villages and see all the fine homes on their way to and from visiting day can lead to unsavory thoughts and actions. Being alert to surroundings and circumstances is being aware.

I just mapped the distance to the middle of Middleton and the HS Football field - about 6000 feet to both of them.

7500 feet to the Saluki Rec Center (that was marked on Google Earth)

About 8,600 feet to Eastport

Pretty sure I heard that a mob member escaped not to long ago. I know Whitey Bulger was there for a long time. He was transferred to a prison in WV and killed there.

A little segue this morning……..

I have been wondering if Bill Erpenbeck was in Coleman.

Cincinnati news is reporting that Erpenbeck was just released from a Florida prison after serving 21 of his 30-year sentence.

Those of us from the Tri-State area area might well remember Erpenbeck. He was the (Northern Kentucky) developer found guilty of fraud — to the tune of 34-million.

Erpenbeck built housing developments, nice ones. He was living high on the hog while defrauding his subcontractors and banks. (He was in cahoots with a bank president.)

People lost their homes because of him. Some of those people had paid cash.

The Erpenbeck story was all over the local news as it was originally unfolding in the early 2000’s……..

The moral of the story: Cash buyers who remember Erpenbeck are probably willing to spring for the cost of owner’s title insurance…..

When you buy a house for cash, you are the bank. . .So?
Act like a bank.

Situations can vary, of course, but when I hear someone bragging about buying a house for cash and saying they don’t need no stinkin’ (owner’s) title insurance, I always want to tell the tale of Erpenbeck. ( I wonder what he will do now that he is out of prison. He is 63.)

Probably under a mile with Eastport going in.
