Default White Cabinets in new homes

Can anyone advise if the white cabinets in the new homes are wood with a painted finish or the Thermofoil wrapped cabinet doors ( Plastic heated over the composite door fronts) as used in prior years. Thanks

None of the cabinets that come with your home are wood. They are all medium-density fiberboard.

To get wood, you would have to remodel.

We have White Cabinets, installed 15 years ago. I love them. They are Thermofoil Wrapped. A quick wipe with a wet cloth keeps them looking like new!

You can get wood if you upgrade your cabinets when you buy if the kitchen has not yet been selected and installed.
We have maple cabinets.

We just replaced our 12 year old cabinets with wood and when my husband took down the old ones he found some of them were starting to disintegrate. They were also minimally attached to the wall. The one with the microwave attached was ready to come down.

I don't like white either but ours were worse, they were pink.

Our cabinets were the pinkish oak, we painted them white over 10 years ago and they still look great. We cook in our kitchen every day. Len & Mary the retired half of Investment Painting.

That comment is in the minority. I have probably watched every episode of House Hunters since the show began. I believe we have over 40 recorded right now, my wife and I will binge watching them every week or two. The one comment that is almost guranteed to be heard in at least half the shows is the wife will say, I want my white kitchen.

Myself I find the kitchen is the first room you focus your eyes to start the day, and nothing can brighten it more than a white kitchen. We had our home remodeled in Baltimore in 2008 and went with white shaker cabinets with granite and stainless steel, the whole first floor was painted light blue with plantation shutters and bamboo flooring. People would come in and say, they felt like they were in Key West.

When we bought our CYV in TV in 2011 unfortunately there was no new units with white cabinets available. By 2013 we had Remington Kitchens of Leesburg reface our existing cabinet and boy did it make a difference, my whole day is brightened. We've just added all new stainless appliances and had the floors in the kitchen, foyer and dining changed from vinyl to wood. Plantation shutters, backsplash and now, the only thing missing is a new granite or quartz countertop.

Our kitchen before - unfinished maple - hideous would the best description

The Villages Florida

Our kitchen after the refacing with white thermofoil doors and drawers

From browsing at some of the new homes online, the few that had white kitchens I would say TV has switched from thermofoil to a white painted cabinet. I saw one new home that had gray upper cabinets and white lower cabinets and they definitely appear painted. They appear to be a higher line of cabinet.

Thanks for all of the responses. We like white but would prefer painted versus the thermofoil. We have had two houses with the thermofoil which discolored and peeled after several years. The pictures of the new white cabinet upgrades are beautiful. The white seems to brighten up a smaller area making it feel less closed in. We do like the darker wood finish cabinets in the larger homes that have the added space.

We are building a home in Fenney. The white cabinets in Designer homes are wood and painted - not thermofoil.

I come from New England where you do not see a lot of white cabinets. Maybe because we are surrounded by so much of the white stuff in the winter. Yankees use real wood for everything, floors, moldings and furniture. We find more than the weather down here very different but we just could not tolerate the winters up there anymore so we are adapting.
