I have always found the best prices on e-bay. Go to a really good sporting goods place, try out a few you like until one feels good. Then make sure you know the brand, model, and shaft and go search on e-bay.

An option you may want to checkout is Marion Market. There is a vendor at the east end that sells complete sets, including bag, for under $200. Most of the models were the big-cavity style that are ideal for beginners.

I've had the best luck here in TV at various yard, garage sales. You have to get to them early. I would make a list of sale locations going first to the ones specifically saying they have golf clubs. Most people want to get rid of them. All the ones I've purchased were in great condition, well taken care of and a good fit.

Below is a link to Pacific Golf. I have purchased a couple of sets from them and I purchased my first set from them 12 years ago. I have several friends that have also purchased from them and I have never heard a complaint.

Call them at the number in the site and tell them what you are looking for and they will make suggestions. These are not name brands but are knock offs and will play very well for someone starting out.

If you want name brand clubs see link below. I have also purchased from them several times.

I just bought some women's Callaway Strata Plus (all graphite shafts) through Amazon for my wife for her birthday. Come to find out that while checking some other club sets, I stumbled upon the same set from Amazon for just under $50.00 less five or six days after we received them. I contacted Amazon by phone, advised them of this and received a credit for that amount. That's three plus senior breakfasts we saved and kudos for Amazon.

WOW - $50.

I agree, Amazon.com online service is a great company to deal with They deliver to your door, and great prices. Can't beat that.

Excellent customer service.

Ebay unless a regular seller with plenty of feedback also sells plenty of counterfeit clubs, name brands.

I've used Used Golf Clubs, Pre-Owned Drivers, Irons, Putters, Wedges: Callaway Golf Pre-Owned

And Used Golf Clubs and Discount Golf Equipment from 3balls.com

both have a great return policy

It all depends on how much you want to spend. When my wife and I first started up north here, we both bought a set of Slazengers from Dick's Sporting Goods for about $300, who will ship an on-line order for free.

Try Jim's Golf store on 441 near Target. Ask for Justin. Nice young man , great golfer and fair prices.

Check the Items for Sale forum. There are lots of golf club sets for sale plus bags. Both at good prices.

Hi Rodie. Check out Dick's Sporting Goods online or at their store in Ocala. I bought a couple of sets for myself and my wife from Dick's. We are newbie's to golf and didn't want to spend a lot of money. They are perfect for our needs. Usually, shipping is free if you spend over $100, but check.

Default Callaway Pre-Owned

If you haven't discovered Callaway Preowned, you're missing a great opportunity. They are a part of the Callaway golf club company and as such have a reputation to protect. That's clear from their guarantees and customer service they provide.

Their website is Used Golf Clubs, Pre-Owned Drivers, Irons, Putters, Wedges: Callaway Golf Pre-Owned

If you feel uncomfortable shopping and buying from them online, call their "store" in Dallas and speak with Dan Harris at 888-722-1315. He's a terrific rep and will take care of your every need.

I'd suggest you visit their website first. They classify all their used clubs in to about five categories of wear. I have shopped with them often and find their classification very accurate. Even if you are not satisfied, they'll replace or refund the club(s) you purchase, no questions asked.

Default Please get fitted first

You should go to one of the clubs that offers club fitting. Since this is your first set you need to know what type of shaft, length, grip size that is going to be best for you. You can even try out different clubs to see what feels right. After you get that information you can go to a site like 3balls.com, taylormadepreowned.com etc. to see what you can get. So many players get upset when they are trying to play with a set that just doesn't fit them. It's always more fun with the right equipment.

I usually google golf clubs ie women/men find a good price on the web then go to any golf store and see if they will match the price. They usually do. I just bought a rocket ballz driver last years addition for 135.00 at golf galaxy. I showed them the price on my phone and they matched it no problems.
