Default When do Postal Stations open?

The newest Village is Newell - which has about 150 houses with residents living there. These new homeowners have to go to the Lady Lake Post office - about a 35 minute drive - just to get their mail. No one will tell us when the postal station will open. I understand this is a standard practice but there is no discussion about it until you close and handed the postal key. Does anyone have insight into when the postal stations are opened? I understand Richmond's opened about a month ago. The first owner closed about January 13.

Richmond took about a month as well - going all the way to Lady Lake was a major pain. Will this continue to be the trend, as new villages come on-line further south? A closer pickup spot than Lady Lake needs to be found.

The question should be addressed to the Developer or addressed during your closing.
You might try having mail forwarded and purchase a box at a closer location UPS store than traveling to Lady Lake PO.

Every new home we closed on it was 4-6 weeks until postal station opened.

Why, because it’s a new route, and staff is moved around to accommodate first openings until private contractors are hired. They aren’t postal workers.

Plus there needs to be a percentage of homeowners living there to make it worth hiring new people. When we purchased our first home we closed 4/10, Fourth of July week we came down, and only 4 homes were occupied on 4 streets. It was little creepy to see over 100 homes dark, and very quiet

Thank you for a thoughtful post. They know well in advance these homes are coming. And a home costs $400K and you cannot get mail? At least bring it to Ezell...

The question is a month from WHEN? The FIRST house closing or YOUR house closing. BTW, I am not affected - i don't go until June 1 and it will certainly be open by then. I am advocating for others...

Once Meggison is open to 470 there is a US Post Office about a mile east on 470.

Did they take in consideration that a lot of people don't drive when they came up with these mailing centers?

I'm guessing this is an issue with the postal staff and not the developer.

There are MANY post offices between here and Lady Lake. The Villages MAKES you go to Lady Lake until they open the neighborhood postal station.

Try this service. I use it and now only go to the mail station once a week. Most are junk mail unless you are waiting on something important, you will know it's on the way.

I read on the Newell FB page, new residents were told once the Newell Village reaches 30% occupancy, mail will be delivered. I am unsure whether the 30% is in reference to homes sold or owners living there full time.

Listen to Jackie Gleason. His answer is the best of the bunch. No matter how hard you wish it to be different it is going to be Lady Lake.

We got our mail in the new section on day #1. Loving it!

A trip to Lady Lake once a week is not such a bad thing. Others here who were pioneers had to wait months for the bridges to civilization to be finished so in the scope of things this is a small problem. 95% of our mail is garbage. I have most of our bills emailed to me. I let the companies who are nudges mail the bills to me so it costs them to do so!

I’m curious, were you given keys to your mail box at closing?
