Default Washer/drier in garage

Just a quick question ~ with a washer that is placed in the garage, is there ever a need to worry about cold weather. Sure can't do it here in Wisconsin. Just wondering.

We have our washer and dryer in the garage here in Missouri, and it is not a problem. It can be quite hot in the summer here, and in fact, this summer it has been significantly hotter than in TV. The garage is not heated or cooled but is well insulated. In Florida the bigger problem would be the summer heat, not for the equipment, but the operator although not an overwhelming problem IMO. (I do my laundry BTW)

Don't know about the cold. I didn't want a washer and dryer in the garage as I was more worried about the heat!

We have our washer and dryer in the garage and think that is the best place for it. It does not take up any space in the house, it is quite when running, and we just remove the clothing from dryer and bring it in the house so heat is not even a consideration. We would only buy a house in the villages if it had washer and dryer in garage.

Our W/D is in the garage and due to the heat we installed a screen enclosure on our garage door opening. You can get a manually operated horizontal screen slider or a motorized vertical screen enclosure. That way a garage in the summer is the same temp on the inside as it is outside, otherwise it could well be over 100 out there. As far as winter, with the door closed it might get down around 50 in your garage for a week or two in December/January, nothing to get excited about. I only wore jeans 5 days last winter.

We have a CYV and the washer/dryer are in the garage. I agree with some of the previous posters that having them there does free up space in the house and you hardly hear them when they are running. Temps inside the garage are not too bad in the winter or summer when you are there washing clothes. After all, you do not stay in the garage for a long time waiting for the cycle to finish

My only concern, because our villa is empty for most of the summer, is that the hi temps in the garage will dry out some of the rubber fittings which may cause an earlier than usual repair or replacement. I figure that fulltimers that use the appliances regularly, this should not be an issue.

Our W/D is in a laundry room. We have always had it this way. I can't get accustomed to doing laundry in the garage. No offense to others but it seems to me that the garage belongs to the cars and the laundry belongs to the laundry. I also like the temperature break the laundry allows between the garage and the rest of the house. To each his/her own!

Wouldn't it be great if you could do a through-the-wall installation. It could work with front loaders. That's how I configured machines in the clean room where I worked. It saved valuable clean room space and made the machine easy to service from the rear.

Thanks for the replies...it will help as we search homes. Glad to see it's not too much to be concerned about.

We don't currently have W/D in the garage but have had in another place not far from TV. No problems. George And OP, you can get in on a House Watch program for about 35.00 a month and they will turn your appliances on every two weeks and that solves the problem of rubber fittings drying out. For many reasons, House Watch is a good idea anyway. A neighbor also has a key but in my opinion that is a bit much to impose on a neighbor all summer long. OP!!
