Question Villages Square Web Cams

Why is the video quality so poor and no sound with The Villages web cams on the squares, and no audio? Outdoor camera technology that is reasonably priced and far superior is available.

Maybe because the cameras are actually security devices controlled/operated by security staff rather than cameras for viewing pleasure?

They look clear to me, especially when you expand each screen larger and then it's very clear. I can even recognize people at Brownwood. Maybe you're looking a bad source, try this link. I imagine there is no sound because it would cost them a few thousand a year in broadcast song fees.

I wish all of the cams would be as clear as the ones at Brownwood.

I would think that high quality resolution would be important for security reasons. If viewing pleasure happens o be a secondary benefit, there's nothing wrong with that.

I don't live close to the square so it is convenient to see what is going on in order to determine if it is worth the trek. Secondarily, when explaining The Villages to family and friends, the place is too big to show them everything. It helps to supplement my description with web cams.

It's not only the clarity, it is the view with the Brownwood cameras; better view than the other two squares. The location of the camera makes all the difference.

If you go here: The Villages you'll see that there are two different cameras on each square.

I'm not surprised that things are better in Brownwood. The expansion of The Villages has obviously been a learning process. I think that a lot of things got better as they moved south and west. The cart paths are off the road south of 466 and on Buena Vista. I think that when they first added them to northern Morse Blvd they weren't thinking of the amount of traffic they would have in the future. They learned from their mistakes.

There is now sound because then The Villages would have to pay a royalty on the songs being played by the bands. At least this is what I was told when I asked why there was a sound speaker icon on their app.

While the quality of the web cam's can vary between the squares, it's still nice to look in occasionally at what we have to look forward to. A nice respite, from another cold and snowy winter up here.
