Default The Villages Regional Hospital is no more...

I just read in the Sumter Sun Times (not the D.S.) that the hospital is now called The Spanish Plaines Hospital. UF Health changed it's name. Old man Schwartz must be turning over in his grave. That was his pride and joy.

In January 2020 The Villages Regional Hospital was purchased by UF Health. At that time, it was renamed UF Health The Villages Hospital.

In June 2024 It was renamed UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital.

Huge PR mistake- The upgrades made by UF are a tremendous plus for the greater community, no doubt. The perception of the Villages community will not see the disregard for the history of the institution as a friendly move. Many see the UF as a money tree, not needing local volunteer efforts. ------ JMHO

I have always been a positive opinion for TV hospital. Until a less than 21 hour in-house stay. Our hands on experience opened our eyes. Yes we both have extensive medical background, and many would not have understood the underlying background of care.
Have been to UF in Gainesville and it’s like night and day.

We understand long waits in ED because people treat it like an urgent care, not the problem since it was direct admit. I know there are others who have had a better experience, but ours not so much.

First time in 45 years I have ever considered AMA, maybe a name change could help facility.

Can’t see how it could be unfortunate, it’s hard to imagine the place possibly getting any worse. The Villages was happy to run away from having their name associated with such a poorly rated business.

Too many people fail to realize the improvements that UF Health has made to the hospital in the last 4 1/2 years. UF Health probably changed the name in an effort distance themselves from the poor reputation that TVR had garnered in the past.

My only experience was last year had bad sore throat and cough constantly. Been to urgent care and er on 466a. Went to villages er 6pm and eventually was diagnosed with a tonsil infection. They said unfortunately had no ent specialist so put me in an ambulance to Gainesvill UF health. Great care gave me antibiotics and developed a steroid specifically for my infection. In two days I was home no more sore throat or cough.

I’m in the process of PT from a broken knee and even the Therapists here in TV say TV hospital is awful. That’s scary since there are way too many older people in an area with terrible healthcare.

A lot of times businesses change the name to erase a bad reputation. The hospital has long been lowly rated. If the hospital had a 4-star rating it would not have changed.

Be happy for “UF Health, Spanish Plaines Hospital” name. Now it is run by folks who know how to run a hospital. They have 1of the best reps in FL! It is the top trauma hospital in Jacksonville where we moved from.

So a housing developer builds a hospital…however knows nothing about running it. We moved here in 2017, & I spent 48 hrs in the hospital when it was still under TV. Mostly staffed with agency personnel. No consistency. It was not good. Since I am a nurse, I knew what should & should not be done, so I pushed back. However I felt bad for all the folks who didn’t know what their rights as a patient are.
Now you have UF regular staff & rules. You can call it whatever you want, just keep UF in there!!!

Are you saying that you initially went to Trailwinds ER and were either misdiagnosed or your condition was not taken seriously? I’ve always heard great things about Trailwinds ER.

I was just in the hospital here for 3 days. We've lived here 15 yrs and used it several times. The care now is a lot better than before. Many who complain come from cities with large teaching and sometimes Ivy League hospitals. You can't compare those with here. Remember T.V. would mostly be considered a rural area....or possibly a regional area and the comparison isn't the same as a metro. At any rate---the changes were apparent to us from the time we walked in. The wait time til triage was fairly quick and from there to a room in the ER was pretty fast as well. We walked in mid to late morning and I was in a room upstairs by mid to late afternoon. Much quicker than previous visits. I might add they were quite busy (albeit slammed) the whole time I was there yet I didn't feel slighted one bit. The change of a name to me is a positive thing!!
