Default Vehicle vin inspection for registration of out of state vehicles

We're finally moving down in a few weeks and and want to register one of our cars in FL.

I know you are required to get FL insurance and have the title and all that. No problem there.

I also know you are required to get a Vin Inspection. The FLHSMV lists a couple places to get it, but I'd like to know what other people have used and have they done it recently? The Pandemic has changed a lot of procedures.(like getting appts at the DMV in your own county only).

Some folks said the inspector at the registration place just walked out and looked. If that's the case, great. Just trying to make sure I do it right.

VIN Inspection
If the vehicle was not titled previously in Florida, the seller must complete a Vehicle Identification Number and Odometer Verification. The form requires verification by the owner and one of the following:

Florida FLHSMV compliance examiner/officer;
Licensed Florida motor vehicle dealer;
Florida notary public; or
Law enforcement officer.

Go over to the new Sheriff Office behind the library at Pinellas Plaza.

Six months ago we went to the Sheriff's office at 301 and 462W. We had read that the inspector at the registration site would walk out and do it but when we called we learned that was no longer offered due to the pandemic.

If there is now a Sheriff's office near the library I would recommend that. The registration office is in the same building as the library which would make it very convenient.

I did this last week. I downloaded the form and had a police officer in Maryland sign the odometer and VIN number. Totally free - That's it - you don't need to bring the vehicle to Florida either.

Perfect. Thanks, that answers that. I figured there may have been some changes.

Sumter County was doing a drive thru for vehicle title and registrations at 466A and Powell Rd. This included a vin verification.
