I saw a news report about Urban Myths in the villages and was sure that there are no Urban areas of The Villages so the first word was untrue. So I decided to post other myths about the villages, some might be true.
The new rec center on Morse won't increase traffic and cause more accidents. Katie B's will reopen after the renovations. The pools are checked for resident passes and we found no violations, nothing to see here move along. The new pickleball courts are not sponsored by an orthopedic surgeon. We have more 80 year olds with STDs than all the Club Meds combined. Section 5.3 of the deed restrictions of Orange Blossom Hills reads, in part. 5.3. Each owner hereby agrees to pay a monthly assessment of $30.00 per month. Included within the charge shall be all water and sewerage. |

The Villages loofah colors' meaning explored as Florida trend sends the internet into a frenzy.
This keeps cropping up. As did Mr. Midnight years ago when Leisureville: Adventures in a World Without Children was written and talked about a great deal. Amazon.com |

The urban myth I find most offensive is the one about STD rates. Retirement Blog | fact-or-myth-the-villages-is-the-std-capital-of-the-world

Urban myth: Cyclists obey all stop and yield signs
In fact, there is a physical law that explains this: The compliance with the law requiring cyclists to obey all road signs is inversely proportional to the number of cyclists in the pack. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Villages - is definitely defined as an Urban area - based on both size and population growth.....I don't believe the myths....but I do know that The Villages is an Urban area.

The undying stories about The Villages and STD rates was never true, but, like all things internet, why wrestle with the truth when the fiction is so much more fun. The myth apparently originated in a 2006 radio interview with an OB-GYN, who claimed she was seeing higher rates of STDs in The Villages than she did while working in Miami.
No matter that the OB-GYN later recanted her story, the tale had a life of its own. Picked up by several major newspapers and media outlets, the myth had become "fact," and was never going to go away. I must admit, though, it is pretty funny when our kids are wondering just what Mom and Dad are up to in this promiscuous sink of deviate behavior we call home. |

Red shoes, or was it gold, worn at the square signify readiness for sex
A visible laundry tag, at the square, means you're looking for a hookup. |

Very amusing. I do see loofahs on various cars in the neighborhood but have never asked their drivers about what they mean to them.
