Default Trouble finding electrician

Been asking neighbors, at local hardware stores, coffee shops, etc. for recommendation for competent and "reasonable" electrician to do some routine work. Over and over hearing a version of the same story which goes: One guy (company) bought out all the electrician businesses in this area, and make outrageous charges for things that were not even in need of work. A handyman we have used for years and is very trustworthy, told us about his neighbor, a window, who was told she needed over $2000 of work on her breaker box. He took a look for her, found out none of that was true. Anyone had a positive experience with an electrician ?

I have used Hayes Electric.

FYI, D&D Construction subcontracts electrical work to Hayes. Also, we moved ceiling entrance light. Hayes had a drywall subcontractor that took care of fixing the hole and the finish.

Thank you for an honest personal experience response. I take it they are NOT one of all the electrician businesses bought by this one individual/company I have been warned over and over about. Again, thank you for the suggestion, will contact them !

Pikes also wired our house. Six months after we moved in we had them install power for a hot tub. They were half the price that Hayes quoted. That was over a year ago so it sounds like they’re not doing call in work anymore.

Lenhart is who the company that installed our motorized lanai shades uses. They were very professional, did a clean install and when they were done you never knew they were there except for the new outlets we had in our lanai soffit.

OP, what is "routine work", if this is replacing outlet, GFCI, switches, or anything else that does NOT require NEW wiring, you may be able to use a handyman, as typically you are allowed to do this work yourself. If your "routine work" involves NEW wiring, you need a licensed electrician, or plan to have 2 inspections, one pre-wiring completed, and one post wiring completed. I did 1 or 2 wiring projects myself and got the permit and the inspections. The only reason I did these was I was able to get to the areas for the new wiring, and my rates were a lot lower than the local electricians and I was able to work immediately.
On a side note, in the past i have used ECI, Lenharts, Galaxy, and one other I cannot remember. Interesting point, Galaxy was out for low voltage repair (under warranty), and I had to fix their repair. The one I cannot remember did the initial hot tub wiring (240 volt 50 amp circuit), and this was found to be NOT TO CODE when I had the hot tub moved. If you have any concerns about the work, call the county for an inspection, or hint that you may be doing this to the electrician.

Galaxy is a ripoff. It’s insane how much they are trying to charge people for simple work. I got a quote from Pikes that was onky slightly lower, still a massive ripoff.

I went with Grant Electric instead and they did the work for 1/4 of the price of the other two.

I used Pikes yesterday and was completely satisfied. Great in the office and the guy who came out was just incredible. $150 1st hour then $120 every hour after but they split that into 15-minute increments. If you want whatever you are doing done correctly, you have to pay!

Not sure where you got that information, or maybe you misunderstood them. Regardless, it is simply not true. I called them yesterday about doing a project at my home and they’re sending out someone to do a free estimate.

Like many other trade jobs (plumber, carpenter, brick layer etc.) more and more of these people are retiring and young people are not taking up the trades. We were told to go to college and get a degree. Many of these kids are working in low paying jobs. Some of the trades pay very well and if they start their own business, they get to set their own hours.
