Default Traveller's Cheques in the Villages.

Where can you get Traveller's Cheques in the Villages? Do businesses in the Villages take Traveller's Cheques?

Just wondering as I tried to get some Traveller's Cheques at Wells Fargo Bank on CR466 this afternoon and they told me they no offered them and that they did not know where in the Villages one could purchase them.

I believe AAA provides them for members.

We were told recently by American Express and Wells Fargo that nobody uses them anymore. They said use your charge or debit card around the world. We are not sophisticated travelers and this was a change for us.

I believe that RedChariot's message is near to truth. I haven't heard of anyone using Traveller's Cheques in many years. With today's modern technologies, folks either use their debit card or exchange money by way of their "credit card!"

Of course, care is recommended under any and all circumstances!

Bottom line [] is to always have enough cash on hand!

AAA does have them.
Of course American Express and other credit card companies would advise to use CC cards.
It simply is not true that nobody uses them any more.

Like many international, we use both our credit cards and travelers checks, and little or no cash. In the event of losing either you or CC or travelers checks you are covered and get replacements very quickly. When the cash is gone you are on your own.

And TC are accepted around the world!!

We were told 4-5 years ago that travellers' checks are too prone to forgery (because of ID theft and forged ID's) and the way to go is to buy the prepaid, set amount Visa or Mastercards, and then refill them online or by phone (AAA did them).

I did see these advertised on the AAA web-site. They do also say that they discontinued Traveller's Cheques. http://www.aaa.com/aaa/sem/sem.htm
