Default Tiny frog from falls from indoor air vent!

Let me start by saying, I am afraid of "little critters". So you can imagine the screech I let out when I saw a little frog, legs up, right under the air vent in my laundry room (Lily model built Nov 2010). I had just walked by that spot a few minutes earlier and coast was clear, now to my surprise, there was this little critter in the middle of the walkway in clear sight. Well, turns out I think, that just as the Villages Warranty person said to me when they came to my house at the end of the 1 year anniversay, "be sure to keep the outside drain spout from your heat pump system in an upward facing position because geckos and frogs climb in and could cause blockage to the drain line or get into the system". The outside PVC spout at the end of the heat pump drain line was indeed in an upward position when I bought the house and I always thought it was odd but never touched it, then I had my cooling unit serviced over a month ago, and when I went outside to check the spout after that little critter was using my floor as a cemetery, I was surprised to see that the spout was facing downward. Guess the cooling service rep turned it face down, and the frog came up thru the pipe and into the vent closest to the unit. So you can bet what I did: I put a wire screen mesh over the PVC spout outside and turned it face up again. I should put a "Critters not welcome" sign there too! Hope never to have a critter "fall" into my house again!

Anyway, I did read in some old posts a while back I believe about a similar situation but I think it was an entry thru the roof. But thanks again to this forum, the idea of screening the spout came to me from the suggestion to screen the vents on the roof.

How does water drain out of pipe that faces up?

Just yesterday, Sweetie said to me that those little frogs are sure smart. they hang around the door frame and just wait until someone opens it to jump in.

I have found two in our house this week and I am sure he was right. Your frog could have come in through the vent...but just as easily through the door. Just don't kiss him. He isn't a prince.

Not sure how waiting by the front door to get into their final resting place is quite that smart. Now, falling into the toilet from the exhaust pipe on the roof is quite a diffferent issue.

We had a couple of frogs inside last week also. The lovely Diane put a water glass over each of them and I slid a piece of printer paper under the glass. We escorted them back to the great outdoors and watched them hop away. They were happier and so were we.

We have seen THOUSANDS of frogs this summer...sometimes they virtually cover the back of the house and lanai. We don't handle the frogs with bare hands because some of them secrete unpleasant chemicals.

It is a hoot to hear them start croaking when it rains or at dusk. They can be quite loud!

I haven't had any little frogs in the house this year but last year, I had one or two. Harmless critters, to say the least. Frogs in Florida do not have the caustic chemicals that ooze from their skin but the toads do. Good idea not to pick either up if you are not sure if it a frog or toad. Both are good for eating insects.

We have never lived with a pond behind our house before....we had conservation with huge trees and brush.....anyway the FROGS are so noisy!

I am amazed at how loud it is out there......but I enjoy the view, so it's worth a bit of croaking

I came home last night just after the latest hard rain episode, opened the garage door and drove in the garage. When I walked around the passenger side there was a frog sitting in the middle of the floor facing the kitchen door. He was dripping wet so I assume he was huddled against the garage door and hopped in as soon as it went up. I was going to invite him in but I knew I'd be sleeping in the garage after my wife saw him so I put him out in the lawn.

Found no frogs in our home, but yesterday we were surprised to find something over 5 feet long lying in our locked lanai. No it wasn't a snake... not even a critter. We are in the midst of having a pool & birdcage installed and one of T&D's workers had let himself in during his lunch to take a short siesta!

He probably should have asked permission first, but we weren't upset and would have said ok even if we were asked. Besides, they will be removing the screening to open the lanai to the pool area when the appropriate time comes. It would have been a different case of course it he looked like "Sasquatch" or "He Who Must Not Be Named!" What a scary thought!
