My Courtyard Villa was built in 2011. Does anyone know if interior wall studs are wood or metal. My original builders specs say contractors choice. My stud finder does tell me the difference. I suspect wood as metal was more expensive then but maybe not. Want to wall mount a TV. Thanks in advance

Search the following topic:
"Anyone know if the homes in Fenney are built using metal studs?" I think was the most recent discussion on this. No one here will know the specifics of your home. Mounting to the meat of a nice wood stud is always the best, but wood studs, metal studs or hollow walls will end up making little difference if you use the right hardware. |

Why don't you call the warranty department.....they seem to know all things about the homes here.

If you can work around electricity take a face plate off of a wall switch and use a flash light to see if you can see the stud.
Note it could be that you have wood studs in the walls that face the outside and metal in the interior rooms. Also the door/windows could have wooden studs and the rest of the wall metal. If all else fails try removing part of the wall that is inside a bathroom cabinet or closet. You could cut a hole about 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long. Use you smart phone to take a flash picture of the inside of the wall. Good luck. |

And there is no need to remove wall sections. Determining wood or metal studs is a very easy task.

You can use a small drill bit, if it does not stop after about 1/2 inch, you have wood, if it stops and then goes through suddenly, you have metal.
be careful with the metal studs, and use mountings designed for metal studs, do NOT use the plastic expanding type as these will be cutoff by the metal stud.

Another fast and easy way is go into a closet with a nail and hammer and find a drywall seam (look for a nail head
![]() Not only that but interior studs are 24" apart not "standard" 16" centers which drove me nuts. Our home is 8 yrs old. Mine are metal interior and wood exterior.

If you have a medicine cabinet in an interior wall you could remove it see what it is fastened to.

Just a point here what you find on one wall may not be the same on another wall. There are many variations to where and when metal studs are used. We have a block house, and the OUTSIDE walls are metal studs. The bedroom and closet walls all appear the be metal studs. At least 2 interior walls, master bedroom and kitchen walls are wood studs, as are the knee wall in the kitchen. None block walls in the garage are wood studs.
So I stand by my previous comment, drill a small test hole to see if you have wood or metal, then use the correct wall hanger. Hope this helps.

I mounted a TV last year but used an interior wall and found there was both metal and wood studs. I had to move my intented location a couple of times until I could find a wood stud and then work around metal studs hiding the wires. Home Audio Video Sales & Installation in The Villages, Florida |
