Default State Farm Insurance, or ..........

Has anybody used State Farm insurance for their home insurance in TV? We have them up here in the north but did not know if they are still writing policies in Florida. Have read about needing sink hole insurance and just want to make sure I get everything covered by a good insurance company. If not State Farm, who would you recommend?

State Farm is no longer writing new H.O. policies in FL, even if you're already a State Farm customer. Sorry about our collective luck!!

We got our H.O. insurance through Brightway Insurance out of Jacksonville - Rita Canty (904)646-1850 - underwritten by Security First Insurance Co. Brightway represents a vast majority of the companies that underwrite H.O. insurance in FL - other agencies only work with a few.

State Fram may still write since you already are a policy holder. They did that for us but when it renewed this past August, did we get a surprise $2890.00, we have had SF for 40 years, only 1 small claim 10 yrs ago. We switched.

We used The Villages Insurance Office. They compared our policy and wrote us a new one with actually higher coverage for $788.00. Gave us great service.

We bought last year and was told by our State Farm rep that they do not write HO Policies in Florida anymore. Good luck.

Dennis, I believe you're right - State Farm will continue to carry H.O. insurance policies for clients who have an existing H.O. policy in FL...........but the rate they're going to charge will skyrocket, as you found. Otherwise, you're out of luck - no brand new policies will be written. Doesn't matter how long you've had State Farm coverage elsewhere and/or on other things.

At least that's the story I got from both a State Farm agent in FL and our agent that we've been with for years here in OH. Thus we had to get our H.O. coverage elsewhere.

Default State Farm

Ditto for us

After 35 years it was a no go with us for with State Farm. Or USAA.

Sinkhole insurance is now a very hot topic. Both minor and major. I would suggest find a company that writes for you and then keep them.

The Villages insurance and AAA are both giving us a quote. On my home
I am looking at close to $1300.00 with flood and sinkhole.

I am not in a flood zone but in a new developement I am watching close for one year to see how the storm drainage works. If a storm drain backs up and you flood your home floor you are out of luck without it.

In our new area or the Villages there is only one company writing policy now. My friends have said insurance companies want to see a five year history of the area before they write. I guess that might be a plus for resales in established areas.

Hope this helps

CarGuys, I am new to Tamarind Grove and will close in a few weeks and want flood and sink hole coverage also. We were told by TV insurance people that flood would add over $300 a year to our coverage but I agree with you that I want to try it for at least a year to see how the area is with rain and storms before I decide if it's necessary or not. Better safe than sorry. When we were looking at purchasing and asking about insurance costs it was estimated for us at around $600 or $700 a year I thought but your cost of $1300 may actually be closer to what we wind up paying. I wish I knew what company was a good one to go with. We are renting part time for the next few years until we can move down full time and I think that might add to our costs also. Any suggestions on good companies would be welcome.

We had State Farm up north on everything! When we moved here they wouldn't insure homes and their vehicle coverage was quite expensive. I'm not even sure who we went with with both. You can visit The Villages Insurance offices and they can tell you more.

AAA will give you a better discount if you insure your vehicles with them.

However who wants all that $$$ in escrow. My wife sure does not.

We wer eable to take the car part out. Why well that is another whole post but AAA turned us down for car insurance. We were floored!

Out children three of them are in the military stationed all over the world. No on had speeding tickets not DWI however even thought the kids had their own Stat eFarm Policy and paid their won bill. State farm considered them under my house because they left our home as a address.

It hard to deliver mail to a submarine underwater. Anyway State Farm canceled all the kids fro what they called tow many occurances under one address.

My wife and I were kept as 40 year paying members under a grandfather clause but rates went up.

So every cracked windshield or deer hit that was not you direct fault is consider bad driving under State Farm.

USAA picked me up withour penalty but they do not do Florida insurance.

I was hoping the Morse family could somehow offer us decent insurance coverage and compete with the Insurance companies?

I was a faithful on time payee of State Famr ofr near 40 years and they dicriminated against a family serving its country. Now I will take some flak for this but I am bitter against a company who discriminates against military for incidents beyond our control.

Enough sai on that. AAA insurance and The Villages Insurance of TV are very nice people and can take care of all of us in the new sections.

Those of you in other section do not throw stones us newbies are very limited to our coverage and companies.

And yes Flodd insurance was recommended by both agents for a new division as you never know how how the infrastructor will work brand new.

Like them new Chevy Volt Batteries catching fire!

And Gracie I am so very sorry my spelling caused Pee or a P in the lake. Hoe bad for me.

Morning all

We took out our insurance through AAA in January and have just received our renewal notice. We're with ASI. The original price was $700 and the renewal price went up to $937. I know there are a number of factors that could account for the difference between what you were quoted and what we were quoted, but I'm curious as to whether your sinkhole is full coverage (usually an added cost) or if it was what came with the policy, which usually requires the house be condemned from the sinkhole damage. Sky.... He also has flood insurance which is about $300. Subtract that out and his premium is in line with your renewal rate. I also have ASI with sinkhole coverage and it went up significantly for my August renewal.

Default Costs

The sinkhole insurance was within the AAA policy quote. Our home with sinkhole coverage was going to be around $998.00

I believe this may be for the birdcage addition for wind? It seemed high as I was expecting $800

And correct Flood insurance is a additional $320 for $220k of full insurance.

Will we keep that? Time will tell. We are being cautious the first year or two recommended by both agents.

Today we recieved a detailed Fax with a quote from The Villages insurance. SURPRISED as they offered us both sinkhole coverages minor and major and no inspection was needed as it was new construction.

Other company wanted the pre inspection.

Gracie- I have to agree with you. Up North on my grandfathers Farm House cracks and settlement was pretty much the norm,

And wind insurance was a log chain laid across you winter blankets to keep them from blowing off the bed on a howling cold winter night!

"Insulation was another log on the fire.

Thanks all for your advise!
