I ride a bike nearly every day and have noticed that a lot of residents have placed very large stones at their street side sprinkler heads. In my opinion the residents that have done this are far more interested in doing a lot of damage to someones automobile that they are in trying to protect their $8.00 sprinkler head. No driver intentionally wants to leave the paved roadway and damage your sprinkler heads. If you are just trying to keep parkers from driving across the sprinkler heads, then I suggest a short length of PVC pipe at the heads will do the trick. At one residence I observed today, the boulders were at least two feet tall with four placed along the street. This is on property that that resident doesn't actually own. Striking one of these boulders, will with a doubt cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to a car.

If I put big rocks to protect my sprinkler heads, so be it.
As far as car damage, if they drive on my lawn, then they deserve whatever they get. ![]() ![]()

As someone who just had to pay to get both the sod and sprinkler heads repaired, I concur with "so be it". No, I do not want to damage someone's vehicle - just wish whomever would afford me the same courtesy. And, alas, whomever, did not leave a check to make the repair.

As I said, I don't think anyone intentionally wants to damage any residents sprinkler heads. I have lived in the Villages for 15 years, corner lot and on a curve. I use the donuts and have NEVER had a sprinkler head damaged. As I also said a reflector or pvc pipe will help. For the life of me, I cannot understand another poster who used the words "so be it". Why would a Villager want set up a situation to do thousands of dollars damage to another Villager's car and perhaps cause an accident to protect a $8 sprinkler head. My neighbors are caring and considerate to each other and would never get satisfaction in causing harm to another Villager.

For the record, the individual (s) who drove through my front yard and damaged both sod and sprinkler heads (with donuts), caused me to spend almost $400. No, I do not want to cause any damage to another's property but others should be just as respectful of property which is not theirs.

Surely you know that the sprinkler heads adjacent to the street are not on your lawn nor is it even your property. Every street has a certain set back distance from the street that is deemed to be Right of Way (ROW) and eventually becomes the property of the county. You agreed thru the covenants that you would accept responsibility for maintaining this ROW.

So do you call the county to replace the sod and sprinklers?

OK one more time, I hope you get it this time. It is not your property BUT YOU SIGNED AN AGREEMENT TO ABIDE BY CERTAIN COVENANTS AMONG WHICH ARE THE MATAINENCE OF THE RIGHT OF WAY portion adjacent to your lawn. Also people who have homes with a lake in the rear of their property have similiar responsibilities to the normal water elevation.

The "logic" of the OP escapes me. As long as drivers stay on the road and respect the property of others, it doesn't matter WHAT you put there.

WOW I never thought of using big rocks. Great idea. I guess it is better then the nails on wood planks I have been using.

Are you telling me you have NEVER ran off the road at least a foot or so ??? If you haven't, I can tell you that you are one in a million. I personally can say I have become distracted and left momentarily left the roadway. Or finally, how about the situation where a oncoming vehicle is on your side of the road, what do you do ??? Certainly, you steer off the road to the right.
