Why can’t you reboot via 192.168.0.1 or the modem address? It’s in the router software.

I was thinking I might have to do something like this.

My netgear router up north has the ability to set in the firmware to reboot on any schedule you choose. I chose to have it reboot weekly and haven't had an issue with it in years.

I'm pretty sure this router does not allow logging in via the local IP address. You have to use the Spectrum app on your phone. I may be wrong but I haven't tried logging into the router IP.

You are absolutely correct. I just had to replace mine and the newer version only allows access through the app. Kind of sucks because before I could work and name and choose which bw I wanted 2.4/5 to use myself but now the router does it all “automatically”. Not very secure either.

I've seen this occasionally with other devices but I've never figured out what causes it. It always seemed like a DHCP hiccup where a DHCP reset occurred in one device but did not register correctly in another. I could not find a setting to change that made any difference so I might have been looking in the wrong place.

I've had Spectrum for almost 4 years here in Village of Marsh Bend.
My current Internet access device is a box that has the modem and router built-in; ie one box for both. I do not use the WiFi from Spectrum. Instead I have a TP-Link mesh network for secure and guest WiFi throughout my Iris Designer home. No dead spots. There are 5 mesh hubs spread throughout the home, one even in the garage. In those 3.5 years, have only lost Internet a few times. And only a sort time with Spectrum doing maintenance or fixing a problem. They recently sent me a warning that my service would be down due to an accident, and to expect repairs within 2 hours. Another time about a year ago, they discovered a problem with our service, and would need to send a tech out to investigate. They came and replaced my modem/router with a newer model. If your Spectrum equipment is giving you problems, schedule a service call, have them come out, and make sure the equipment is ok.

Why guess? Log in to the router and look in the error log to see which component is failing. You shouldn’t have to reboot a router for months/years, but should do it every so often. If you don’t know how to get get into the router, ask your ISP or the router manufacturer to go into it and see what the actual problem is. Add more people to the network will not bring it down, power outage will actually reboot the router for you, nor will more construction in the area bring you router down, unless they cut the line.

I have a Roku TV and HP/Windows 10 computer. Spectrum is my internet service provider. I was using WIFI for both the TV and computer. The computer would frequently lose connection while the TV maintained the connection. Thought it might be my computer that was at fault so I switched to using an ethernet cable connection to my computer. Computer now maintains connection with the ethernet cable. TV maintains connection with WIFI. |
