I know there is a Segway tour in Mt Dora, but never heard of one in TV. I did one in Pensacola and it was really fun.

There was a Segway event a couple of years ago that my sister and I participated in. The Segway Club sponsored it. It wasn't exactly a "tour" of The Villages, but a ride though a neighborhood. There were lessons prior to hitting the road. One has to learn how to propel the vehicles, how to get on and off safely, etc.

My sister loved it. I'm still not sure how I felt about it... I'm not tall and the handlebars, even though lowered, still were not at a good height for me. Really, we all had a good time....many people gave Segway propulsion a try that day!

There is a Segway Club in TV. I believe last month they were at Seabreeze giving villagers the chance to ride for $25 and the money went to charity. They've had that going on the last few years. I believe to join the club you need to own your own Segway and they cost $5,000 or more.

There is a Segway Club in The Villages. They meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Hibiscus Rec Center at 10:00 am. They have outings they schedule through the club. In order to participate in one of their outings, you have to attend Boot Camp which gives you training on a Segway. Boot camp is held at the Segway store in Mount Dora. You do not need to own your own Segway to participate in the rides. When you sign up for the outing and pay your fee, the fee includes the use of a Segway.

Actually, the event is this Monday, 11/10/14 @ Seabreeze. Tickets are available thru the Villages box office or on line.

Default Segway

The Segs4Vets event is this Monday at Seabreeze. The 30 minute rides are sold thru The Villages box office and are sold out quickly. However, there are ten minutes for ten dollars rides that are available as a walk up no reservation needed basis. The Segways and equipments are donated by the Segway dealer in Mt. Dora. ALL of the money collected, except for box office fees, is donated to the charity, which provides Segs for soldiers who are disabled.
Only a few members of the Segway Riders Club of The Villages own their own Segway. The rides are at least once a month and include some interesting places such as the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Ybor City, St. Augustine, nature preserves, etc. A couple times a year, the club does a Village ride. Monday we rode to the new Belle Glade CC from Brownwood. Central Florida Segway provides the machines.

Every Thursday, the owners have a lunch ride in The Villages. Today we rode from Laurel Manors to The Lighthouse restaurant at Sumter Landings. Lots of fun....no talent needed.

$5,000? Isn't that mere pocket change for residents of TV?
