Hi Folks,
I'm hoping that someone can answer a question for me. When you are registering an out of state car in Florida which has a lien on it, I saw on the form that the lienholder needs to sign the "application for certificate of title". Has anyone registered a vehicle with and lien and how did it go?

The county sent a signed (by me) request for an original title, filed a copy for their records, and returned the title to the lien holder. took about 6 weeks.

Just take them a phone number where to fax the request and it will be handled. Ours only took a few weeks, but that was recently in the summer.

Same for us they faxed it over to the County and it only took a few days.

I know this is a dated post, but we are getting ready to register our vehicle that has a lien on it. My question is once you fill out the paperwork and they send/fax it to the bank do they registered it then? Or do you have to wait until they get the title back? Since you have to have insurance first, do you go ahead and do this, or wait until they get the title? Also what about Florida drivers license. Do you do this last or is this process done all at the same time? How busy is the Wildwood DMV? Our car state inspection runs out June 30th, so we must start this process soon. Thanks in advance. V.

Licensing & Registration done on the same visit

Since you have to have insurance first, do you go ahead and do this, or wait until they get the title?

Get your insurance cards from your insurance agent before going in to register.

Also what about Florida drivers license. Do you do this last or is this process done all at the same time?

Done at the same time.

How busy is the Wildwood DMV?

Depends on when you go. Being there when they open in the AM could be your best bet!

Answers given in quote! One comment... you'll be given a choice of a hard copy of the new FL title or an electronic copy only. We chose electronic so we won't chance a misplacing of our new title document.

What is the process for getting a drivers license. Do they require any tests, driving, vision, answer questions etc.

This happened to me recently. Wanting to register my Mini in Florida , my title was. Locked in a safe deposit box in Florida. I refilled for a new title and had to call the bank who i took the loan with . The statement saying I satisfied the loan took about 7 business days to arrive.

1. Yes and no! The forms are available online and can be filled out in advance of your going to the DMV office.

2. Even as a NYS retired Supervising Motor Vehicle Representative*, I cannot give a reliable answer to this question. As such I'm far from an expert in FL DMV procedures. Heck, I'm no NY expert either! There are variables that can be involved and because of that I would suggest you use the link I provided in my previous post. (#7 IIRC) If you can't find answers there, then you should contact the DMV where they should question you to find out your exact situation so as to give you (hopefully) an accurate answer. What you shouldn't do is take anything that's said here by anyone, including me, as gospel. I'm sure most people are well intended, but generally there are factors possible (not to mention procedure and legal changes) we may not know when it comes to Motor Vehicle regulations or requirements. When I was working we received procedural changes pretty much every day.

3. Drivers Licensing and Vehicle Registrations do not need be done at the same time.

Storage of electronic titles? I'd presume on computer database files with backup copies made regularly with copies of the backup files stored off premises for security precautions.

I went to the tax collector's office on 466 and they handled all the paperwork for me to get my Florida plates and registration. Took about a week or so. Easy....

Did you have Florida insurance before you went?

skyguy79 - I have the form printed and ready to fill out. I hesitate filling it out though, only because I can see when I get there, they won't use that form anymore and I'll have to start over.

I have asked our insurance agency these question. Waiting to hear back from them.

Guess we will just go, if we have to go back it's not that far of a drive.

Here's The Village Insurance reply:

We can do the insurance anytime you are ready for that. I believe it takes a little while to get the Lien holder to send the paperwork to the DMV depending on how fast they are. So you can wait until that is sorted out or go ahead and get it out of the way. You will have to have the proof of FL insurance when you go to the DMV and are all set to register. Just let me know if there is a time you would like to come in and we can set you up on the calendar.
