IMHO reasonable Murphy beds is an oxymoron. I have seen them in the 1-2000 dollar range but still find that high.

the places all around the villages just keep raising the prices of everything. The murphy beds at the place you went to was charging $3800. two years ago. I know because I purchased one then.

We found that a reasonably done murphy bed (better looking than glorified pasteboard and with a comfortable mattress) would cost about $4800 installed. We average, maybe, 14 nights of guests a year. At that rate we can treat our guests at a good motel for about $110 a night for 3 years. If after 3 years we have any friends left, we will put them up on one of those $100 deluxe blow up queen size mattresses and not have one of those murphy bed monstrosities plugging up the room.

I got my wall bed for $2600. Queen size with a couple of nice side cabinets. I bet the bed you are looking at for $6800 has a ton of cabinets or maybe a desk designed in there somewhere. Just a wall bed by itself wont cost $6800

I want the kind of wall bed that the Marx Brothers had - one that slams shut with guest inside!

No it wasn't just the bed itself for 6800. When you walk in the store, it's the first one on left hand side. It had bed, some side drawers, cabinet and yes a desk of course with drawers but I still think 6800 is crazy. I like the post about comparing it to putting your guests in a hotel !! lol that was cute idea.

Problem is, after a few days they may give off an unpleasant odor.

I was thinking about getting a murphy bed but after reading this I'm reconsidering. maybe a nice trundle daybed would fit my needs with the hotel option always available
