Default Quantum Internet?

A couple years ago, I was told by a representative of Quantum Fiber that they had taken over Centurylink's fiber internet service and I was asked if I wanted to change over to them at 200Mbps for $30 a month for LIFE. I have an automatic payment every month and for the last couple years I have been pleased with their promise. Today, I received a notice from them that they were increasing the charge to $40 a month and that if I didn't want to pay it I have the option of severing service with them before the payment is due. Granted, I have not contacted them yet, since it is early and they are not open. I originally thought this was a scam, but I logged onto my account at their website and sure enough, it's true.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone else been notified of a price increase? Personally, I am suspect of a company that offers a lifetime price commitment, but I gave it a try. Even at the higher price increase (33%) it's not a bad deal. BUT, they continue to offer "price for life" in their advertising. I have been recommending Quantum Fiber Internet to anyone asking about internet access in the Villages, but now I am not sure they can be trusted to honor their promise.
I plan to give them a call today to question them about their broken promise. If anyone else is interested, I'll let you know the results of our conversation. I do understand how prices go up in today's inflation, but a written explanation as to why the increase would have been conducive to a better understanding. I am still glad that I cut my ties to Xfiinity a long time ago.
On a side note, question: has anyone started using the cell 5G internet here in the Villages? If so, how do you like it? What kind of speed do you get and is it a stable speed?

Yes, I had the same experience. When I switched from CenturyLink to the rebranded QuantumFiber, I was also told the price was for life. I did question the representative about this because there was nothing in writing on their website to confirm this. I figured the price would stay at $30 per month for perhaps a couple of years and then bump up a bit. Before switching to the rebranded name, I was paying $45 per month but that was truly a one price per life offer in writing. I figured even if the $30 per month price went up in a couple of years, I would still be ahead. The current offer of $50 per month does have a fixed price for life, with a few caveats, but includes their mesh router (which I don’t need) and higher bandwidths (which I also don’t need) so I will continue using them at $40 per month. I did talk to QuantumFiber about this and they stated something I already knew; the $30 per month service was not one price for life. In general, unless you see it in writing on their website, buyer beware. Fortunately, internet access is similar to a lot of technology in that you get more for the same price, or less, as time goes by.

At $40/month, that's still a very cheap price for what they are giving you. As far as wireless internet, it works well but you need to be close to one of the wireless towers so you will need to try it. Every homes location will give different results.

Thank you. Much to my chagrin, I did not act with due diligence when I accepted the premise that they were telling the truth when they promised lifetime $30 a month. I normally do not accept these things so easily. Must be getting old. 👴

In March of 2024, I too switched from Century Link to Quantum Fiber at the incessant urging of Century Link via their emails. When I log into my account on Quantum's website today, under the "Services" tab it still shows "Fiber internet - Price for Life $30.00 per month." Maybe they wait a certain period of time before they change the rate.

At the time I switched to Quantum, they sent me an email entitled "Your Quantum Fiber order confirmation". In that email under the section "Additional Information and Terms and Conditions of Your Service", it states the following: "Price for Life Offers (residential) & Offers with Set Monthly Rates for Services (business). If you selected one of these offers, the monthly recurring charges for your services only and any applied discounts will remain the same as long as services subject to that offer and the service address where service is delivered don’t change for any reason and your account remains in good standing, is not suspended, changed, or disconnected. Equipment charges, fees, and taxes are not included in Price for Life offers or Set Monthly Rate offers, are not guaranteed and may increase." Higher up in this same email it states "Order confirmation. Fiber Internet Up to 200 Mbps - Price For Life $30.00"

I'll speculate that everyone that switched to Quantum got this same email. It's not that $40 is a bad price for internet, but it would irk me to have them renege on a clearly stated commitment. I wonder what options are available to hold them accountable -- note that it's about the principle and the ethics rather than the $10.

I have had the $30 per month service with QuantumFiber for almost 2 years. I do not have anything in writing that says “one price for life” so I don’t really have anything to argue.

Read the fine print. I believe you can still see price increases because of the equipment (mesh router) they are providing for the $50 offer. The service is good.

They have not yet made an offer, taking quite some time to do the digging. None of their workers seem to speak any English so no idea how long it will take to finish

i have been using T-Mobile's version for several months now and I am completely happy with it. I live near Eisenhower rec center.

I have measured it at 300ish Mbps and at 50 Mbps though I can't say whether the difference was in the service or in my computer (I've seen it connect at lower rates). I have never had a problem streaming at 2160p.

I have not had any problems with loss of signal in the wind, rain, or lightning.

Biker1 nailed it. I bolded the "fine print" that states what can be increased over time. I agree that the equipment provided and the service delivered are good.

I just checked my billing for next month and it is still $30 with no future increase. I also do not lease their WiFi pod system because I have purchased my own mesh system. It will be 2 years in December that I have had quantum with no increase. Check to see if the increase is the rental of the pods. If it is it will be worth it to buy your own mesh system.

Just an FYI:

Lumen Technologies owns Quantum Fiber and CenturyLink:
Lumen Technologies
A global communications services provider that includes Quantum Fiber and CenturyLink as brands. Jeff Storey is the CEO of Lumen, which is headquartered in Monroe, Louisiana.

Lumen is having financial difficulties.

It's in the fine print but, if you call them, you'll get a little relief.

Default Quantum

Lucky you, I just switched over and paying 55/month!
On another note; The first install tech was terrible; had wire running over bushes from the junction box!
When asked about it; it’s not my job another team will bury the cable 2 to 6 weeks!!!
