We just bought our house in August and are coming back up for the holidays. The weather seems like it will be in the high 60’s and maybe the 70’s. Are the pools heated enough to swim?

Villages pools are around 82. It is cold getting out. My pool is 85 and I have not gone in for several days.

The pools ARE heated. However, I figure at some point I’ll have to get out of the water, and will freeze my heinie, so I don’t go.

Last week went to the pool at Truman with kids and grandkids.

We all thought the water was cold with air temp about 75.

Did stay in for a half hour or so.

With them leaving in a couple of days do not think we will be going back until the air temp is back to the 80's.

The sports pools I have swam in are Colony, Seabreeze and Lake Miona. They are heated and the water is very comfortable when the air temp is cold. The water is so warm, you can see the steam coming off the top of the water. As someone already said, it's getting out of the water that becomes a problem.

I agree, if you are actively exercising, and keep your entire body in the water, the temperature in the sports pools is adequate. I have swam laps in the sports pools with the outside temperature was in the high 30’s with no problem. It is cold when you get out, but just dry off quickly and slip in some sweats and all is good.

That being said, we like to keep our back yard pool closer to 90 in the winter since we are more relaxing than working out. And when it’s real cold, we pass on the frozen margaritas in plastic cups.

Just barely warm enough not to ice up. Just kidding. They are not very warm, and getting out is really a challenge.

The longer you live in Florida the warmer the water needs to be.
Typically we don’t swim from November thru April.
We lived in Florida 23 years.

My mother-in-law experienced the same thing when she moved to Sun City West in Arizona many years ago. She swam all through the winter the first year, a few times the second year and never in the winter after that.

That said, I know of people who swim laps or walk the lanes or who play water volleyball a couple times a week, all year long down here. More power to 'em!

They say 82 to 84, but when it goes down to the lower 30's (like it's doing this week) takes that water a long time to heat up.

I spent a whole day one summer snorkeling at J. Pennekeefe reef, ocean temp 90+ . I remember getting back to New England that same summer, and telling people I am not going in, the water LOOKS cold. Took me about 3-5 years to get back into the NE water in the summer time. . .

FL spoils the northerners. . . but I can't wait to be spoiled. . .

If you are coming down from the north and the sun is out it will be just fine. Before buying we rented during the winter and anything over 60 was a pool day as long as the sun was out. Now, 75 or warmer with sunshine would be a pool day.

Being from Massachusetts, the only time I have gone in the ocean since I was a teenager is in the Caribbean. Anything below 85 is freezing and I have only been in Florida for 2 months. What will it be like after I am acclimated to the Florida weather?
