Default Police/Fire/Ambulance services

What Police Departments, Sheriff's Department covers the Villages. Is the Firefighting Service fulltime employees or volunteer. Does Fire Department have ambulances or is it private ambulances only.

The Villages is in three counties, Lake, Marion, and Sumter. Coverage is by the Lady Lake Police department in Lake County, by the Marion County Sheriff, and the Sumter County Sheriff. Fire service is by full time fire staff and they have paramedic-staffed ambulances.

Since TV encompasses three counties, I'll give you the links to each county's services. Of course you have the state police too. The Villages has five fire stations.

From TV's District Government page: "When I call 911 from The Villages, do I ever talk to someone at a Villages fire station? Not when you call 911. If you are a Lake or Sumter County Villages resident, your 911 call is transferred to
Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services in Mount Dora. All Villages Fire Department stations and apparatus are dispatched by staff at the Lake-Sumter EMS communications center.

"If you are a Marion Villages resident, your request for medical or fire assistance will be transferred to Marion County Fire dispatch in Ocala. MCFR provides the primary emergency medical and fire service in The Marion Villages. Villages Fire-Rescue also responds to all Marion Villages calls."

So, when you call 911 they know where you are caling from based on your telephone exchange or is there one central 911 operator that transfers your call to the appropriate place ? Wonder how this works with a cell phone that has a number from a completely different part of the country.

Thanks for the rapid response. We are from a big city and are spoiled.

Default Police/Fire/Ambulance services

Was in Disney in late March and took a planned side trip to the Villages to see for ourselves. Wound up at the real estate office and looked at houses. Villages is too good to be true. Soooooooooo clean and well kept. Real estate lady, one of the twins, gave us a tour of the amenities.

Got to get away from winters in the mid-Atlantic corridor. Last year was the worst.

Will be retiring in 2 years 9 mos. Will be staying a week in March of 2013 with lifestyles to get the lay of the land.

At first glance tv is too good to be true. I came to see and left wanting to be a frog.

Well join the club fred. We bought in December 2009 after a 6 day Lifestyle Preview Visit and we still think it is too good to be true. It just gets better and better. Absolutely, honestly, indescribable.

Being in TV makes you feel different somehow. More alive maybe. I haven't figured it out yet. I think it is something in the swimming pools like in the movie Cocoon.

God willing, my husband and I both will have many more years to try and figure it out.

You raised a good point about cell phone calls and that is sometimes a problem, not just in TV but in any 911 system. Landlines, just like Caller ID, get the 911 operator right to a real address. Cell phones do not. Several things do happen though. They can isolate the cell tower your cell phone "hit" to make the call - usually close but not close enough for emergencies. Many times the 911 Operator will have to depend on you to tell them where you are - address, street, intersection, building, whatever. Even at that, there are ocassional problems that the 911 operators have to work through.

Most fairly new cell phones have a gps capability attached to the 911 callout. You can be located within a few feet.

Is there a fee in TV when an ambulance is called?

Most parts of the country now have a fee for ambulance calls.

If an ambulance is needed and a patient is transported then yes there is a fee. When I needed an ambulance last year I believe the cost was around $350 and my insurance paid for it.

Hi Fred,
The beauty, the well-manicured grounds, the fabulous amenities, the fun town squares, the access to shopping and restaurants, the golf-cart lifestyle-- you didn't dream any of this. It's all true.

But, guess what? Another surprise awaits. Some of the nicest people on the planet live in TV!
