Default PODS v U-PACK

I have a price from each for an upcoming move. U-PACK comes in at about 20% lower than PODS. They also will deliver in half the time (3 days vs 6 days). That seems to be big difference.
Based on my sightings in TV, PODS is popular. I have never heard of U-PACK.
I would be interested in any comments based on TOTV'ers experiences with either of these firms.

I'm interested in the responses you get. In Michigan I've also seen PackRat. They are using them while remodeling. I will have to check out whether they also do moves!

When we moved, it was cheaper to have a regular mover (United Van Lines) then any of the pod type you pack arrangements, and they packed and unpacked the truck, plus all of the big stuff that we could not pack up. Delivery was 3 days from PA, and they actually BEAT ME when I took the autotrain with one of the cars. For these reasons, we did not use the pod type option for moving.
Hope this helps.

We used PODS because we needed storage for three months. They picked up the POD on time and delivered it on time. We would use them again.

We used PODS. We had a few pieces of furniture we wanted from up north. We had a scratch on one but that was due to our packing. PODS will come pick up the pod and tilt it on end to hook it up so beware of that and pack accordingly. PODS also mislead us on our quote which we disputed and received the amount of difference back. All in all, I would use PODS again for our small load.

We used PODS from MI, nothing broken, everything secure, then had The Village Mover's unpack for us. No complaints compared to everyone I've talk to who used different truck companies. Also heard of another FL based company called MOW Moving on Wheels which may be a bit cheaper. But PODS was wonderful!

Recently moved here and used a POD. We sold our home up North with almost everything in it. My Bob precision engineered the loading of a 7x7 for our personal items. I was amazed that he fit everything in it! He actually built temporary shelves and secured every item. It was an engineering marvel! All arrived intact.

Just moved from Wisconsin to collier this week using upack. Everything went very smooth. They give you sufficicient time to to load and unload. We packed ourselves and used movers at both ends for the loading and unloading process. They had the trailer here in 6 days but we weren't ready for it for it for another 5 and the kept it with no extra charge. They charge by the liner foot. Trailers can fit about 26 ft. Price was a little more than a large uhaul truck.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but here's a little U-Pack trivia: In 1994 my mother retired and was moving from Los Angeles to northern NV. I was a moving company exec (international Government moves) and my husband was a VP at ABF, a nationwide motor freight carrier. Even with my major industry "connections" her move was going to be quite expensive. My husband suggested that I have my company request from his company a spec rate for general cargo and pay only for the space used, which we could do legally as long as we declared it as "freight all kinds" and not household/personal effects, which had a much higher tariff rate. So that's what we did. A crew from my company loaded it and I hired a local crew out of Reno to unload it, and my mother's move ended up costing around 15% of what it would have cost for a normal move. Since ABF actually made money on this deal, he suggested to his company that they test-market this idea as a way to make money repositioning trailers that would have otherwise been moving empty. The test marketing was successful, and ABF U-Pack was born.
If you ever watched Extreme Makeover - Home Edition, you would have seen the U-Pack equipment show up at the end with the homeowner's personal effects that had been removed before demolition.

We used PODs . A great experience. POD was delivered to driveway two weeks before pickup. Prior to drop off we had already packed much. After drop off , we started packing on a daily basis. No pressure. Loading/unloading at ground level, with no ramps. Long distance at that time was a 16 foot POD. Tie downs every 4 feet.. No damage. Delivery on time. Cheaper than rental truck. Convenience ie no last minute loading required. We spent day before watching TV and Wining.

Moved down from NC earlier this year and used u-pack; everything went very smoothly we were very pleased with it. The company was very responsive to phone calls and helped in finding people to load/unload.

We used ABF UPack and were delighted with the service! We had two small containers and filled each one clear to the roof! They were picked up and delivered exactly on schedule and Nothing was damaged! I highly recommend them!

I looked at PODS and UPack, we had a bedroom set, living room set and smaller stuff. We used their moving service (I forget the name). We used 7 feet of space and they had us packed up in hour and a half(but we had a lot of boxes ready to go). We used the Villages Movers to unload and that took about an hour.

Everything went well, except the the truck had a leaky roof, from what I found out that is not unusual. So we lost a small rug. We put an old heavy rug on the floor which kept the bottom of the boxes from getting wet and as we had wrapped most things in plastic wrap which helped also.

The point is we were happy with UPack, but next time (if there ever is a next time) we will make sure everything is protected from leaky roofs.

Default Pack-Rat

We used Pack-Rat and had no problems at all. They were cheaper than PODS. We used the largest container they had. We took our time packing and had no damage to any of our stuff from MA. They even stored it for us until the house was ready for move-in. I would use them again for sure!

We have used U-Pack 3 times in the last 5 or 6 years. Ind. to Az. Ind. to Villages, & Minn. to Villages. Happy with all moves. We did our own packing. They were easy to work with and very accommodating about scheduling. Best price too.
