Default Newer Southern Villages-Golf Cart Living

As TV has, and will continue to expand southward, creating new villages along the way, from what I gather from posts from people who live there, and from my few visits into the newer areas, the lifestyle focus has shifted away, at least to some degree, from golf, golf, and more golf, to less golf, and more biking and hiking trails.

This is a question really directed to those who actually have moved to the newer areas. Do you think these newer villages will ever have as strong a focus on golf cart mobility as the older areas have?
I understand that as the newer areas have been built, not all of the amenities have yet been developed, but as they are, and when they are, do you anticipate those areas being as much of a golf cart community as the villages north of 44?

Don’t believe everything you read. The south is amazing and incorporates enough new amenities that those north of 44 are jealous. A handful of grouches from the north make a lot of nonsense posts about the south even though some of them have never even visited. We love our golf carts and have full connectivity. No worries south of 44!

Hmmm. Not sure how it wouldn’t be considered a golf cart community. There’s no place in The Villages that we can’t get to in our carts. Yes our area is certainly focused on outdoor activities with all of the walking/biking paths. Ezell even has an outdoor circuit course with exercise equipment. But we still have dedicated MMP’s along all the main roads. Several tunnels to get under the busier ones. And of course one bridge over the turnpike with another under construction.

As far as getting away from being a golf community. I can’t say that’s true either. I’m not a golfer but I know there are already 4 or 5 courses. There’s another at least five either under construction or planned for the area between the turnpike and 470.

As far as amenities, we have the standard mix of stuff that they have up north. Then we have some extras like a remote control car race track. Remote control boar lake with a dock. An area set up for stargazing complete with powered telescope pads.

It might be considered that we’re a little light on shopping options. That might be true for some people but we’re six minutes to Lake Deaton Plaza. Seven minutes to Magnolia Plaza and 17 minutes to UFH Hospital in Leesburg.

I’m enjoying my life down here a lot.

Methinks thou protest too much...

Jealous? LOL!

I find it ironic that those who complain about those who live in the North trashing those who live in the South, and then do the very same trashing of those living in the North...

Are you one of the "handful of grouches" from the South?

Live where you want fer chrissakes! Be happy where you live!

Now, to the OP's actual point... They are in the process of, or planning multiple new executive and championship courses below 44. I'm sure, as time goes by, they'll announce even more of them as the southern expansion continues...

Oh, and lest anyone say I've never visited the South, the boss and I take a trip down south on both sides of the turnpike on a regular basis. We like to see what's being built and what's going on first hand. It's a lovely ride "by golf cart", and no, there is no problem with connectivity. Once the Bexley Bridge is completed, it'll be even easier to navigate the newer areas...

I hesitated to post this question, because I didn't want to start another thread that would quickly devolve into a "north vs.south", "my neighborhood is better than your neighborhood" series of exchanges.
I love my golf cart, my wife doesn't really care for driving around in one. She'll come with me in mine, happily enough, but on her own she's more comfortable in her CR-V.

I agree even though I live in Santo Domingo. I'm pleased to see the biking, walking and nature trails. I travel down that way to play golf at least once a week to play the southern courses, cruise down with my coffee and radio on, enjoy seeing the weekly progress being made. I'll be really happy when the new southern bridge will be done as well as the new planned exe and championship golf courses. Dismiss the grump buckets, they'll never be pleased with anything.

I agree with your wife. I never drive the golf cart, and my husband only uses it for golf. If he wasn't an 18 hole golfer, we would not have a cart.

We live south of 44, in The Village of Hawkins. I can’t really address the golf question as we don’t play so it didn’t factor in to our decision when we purchased, but we are cyclists and we were very attracted to this area because of all the paths and trails, and the ability to ride anywhere in the villages without riding on the roads. We love the MMP’s and can get to anyplace we need to go from the south, to the north, in our golf cart. But we also love the pedestrian/bicycle paths that are in the southern area for cycling. Cycling opportunities abound and we probably have close to a dozen routes of varying mileages that we ride regularly. It’s bicycling heaven. But we also have wonderful recreational facilities, pools, and things to do, just like the north.
We’re looking forward to Eastport being completed but not really concerned about whether we get a lot of big box stores down here. We don’t mind going out of the bubble to shop. It gives a change of scenery and a chance to lunch out. I travel up to Colony Cottage weekly for one of my clubs and it really doesn’t seem that far to me, then hit the Walmart Market afterwards. We have a Publix 1.5 miles from our house for in-between. We’re not regulars to the town squares but Brownwood is close enough. Soon Sawgrass will be fully open, and then Eastport.
That being said, we think all of The Villages is gorgeous. Each area has it’s own unique personality which is wonderful because there truly is something for everyone, of every interest and every budget. It shouldn’t have to be a competition between the areas. We don’t all have the same needs and sensitivities. This is an amazing place, no matter what area you live in.

People are people and unfortunately always will be. If, you care what others think you give them power that should be yours. They can only seize that power if you give it to them.

I was asked by two couples who are prospective buyers in TV, and they had formed this impression from lurking on TOTV, and asked me about it.
It seemed like a plausible opinion to have formed, so I was seeking input from people who live in these areas.

I can think of 2 minor improvements to make cart life a little easier that won't happen. A direct connection from North DeLuna along 301 to Fenney. A cart path added to the Warm Springs bridge over the turnpike.

I like the second one.

Almost 200,000 live here!
25,000 Signed up for TOTV (rough estimate!?!)
Maybe 2% are active users of TOTV (pick any number less than 5%.)

TOTV input validation!?!?!?!?!?!?
