Default Mole crickets or Chinch Bugs

We are new residents of Buttonwood, and our lawn, and neighbors' lawns are infested with white grubs. We have a meeting scheduled on Friday (after many phone calls and emails) with our Building Manager. I have some of the grubs in a container, and they are either chinch bugs, or mole cricket larvae. Either will kill our lawn. We were told that we were "not watering the lawn enough" Anyone got any advice? Thanks. Sandra

Call Jim Davis, County Extension office at the Villages Annex just off Morse Blvd.

Default Huntingbill Bug

I called the Extension office, and the kindly man in charge Jim Davis, indicated the nuisance bugs are Hutingbill Bugs - just as destructive as the other suspects. I will take a jar of the culprits to Jim for confirmation of species.

In Ohio they told us for grub to put out a lid fill with a little beer - and they are attracted to it - and they will die. It worked for us. Good Luck

If they are related to the genus O'Grubs, make sure you don't use Guinness. They'll thrive on it!

Purchase Dylox. Put down on lawn and water it in. It can be bought at John Deere landscaping on 301

Default Cinch bugs are not grubs. The adults are very small like an ant.

White body with a dark stripe. The really hard ones to see are the babies they are red and a little smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.

I was shown to take a piece of white paper to the edge of the dead area adjacent to new grass. Pick up a bunch of the dead grass at the edge and throw it on the white paper. Spread it around and if it is cinch bugs you will easily see the adults....then look harder for the little red dots walking around.

Default Huntingbill Bugs on Buttonwood Run

Had a visit from the owner of the sod company today, along with our builder. While the meeting was not THE most cordial, the sod company owner reluctantly agreed to have our yard treated to kill the grubs. The difficult part was getting the owner to realize our yard has been infested since day one, and is not due to neglect on our part over the months since we moved in. I am a keen gardner, and have been changing the landscaping since we arrived. Having come here from VA, I was ignorant of the damage these grubs cause in FL, and yes, I saw the grubs waaay back when in May. Additionally, I recently uncovered a previously covered and hidden sprinkler head, when I removed a layer of sod adjacent to the house The sod owner was not paying attention when I stated what I'd discovered, and insteat argued that I had caused the lawn to die by covering up the sprinkler head. I don't know if he ever did realize that I UNCOVERED the sprinkler, not covered it. So, it was not the most gracious of meetings, but I do appreciate the end result. It goes without saying that our entire street's sod is in the same condition as ours.......

What street is that, and are any of the neighbors being given the lawn treatment?

Default Buttonwood Run

The street in question is Buttonwood Run. I imagine it will be up to the individual owners to pursue the matter....

A lawn service could be bringing them in from another contaminated yard.
