Default Mailing address?

I have been checking Google Earth from time to time to see what has been updated in The Villages. I always start by putting in our new street address, followed by: The Villages 34785.

Tonight it corrected the city to Wildwood. I know the Village of Gilchrist is physically located in Wildwood. But Is that the correct mailing address too, or is it: The Villages, Fl 34785 ??

Thanks for answering another newbie question!!

I am pretty sure that you put "The Villages" and the proper zip code. There are a couple, maybe three in this town. Ours is 32162. It used to all be Lady Lake about seven years ago and now The Villages seems to be the accepted practice.

All that matters is the correct zip code. Mine is 32159 which shows Lady Lake, Florida, when you look it up. I always use The Villages as my city though and that is what it says on my driver's license. I would guess it is the same with Gilchrist. It is just the zip code that matters for any location.

Ditto on the zip code.
Wildwood 34785
TheVillages 32161 and 32162
Lady Lake 32159

In theory and sometimes in reality just the zip code will do. If it includes the additional 4 digits, that should specify the exact house without a town or city name.
Theoretically, you only need the zip plus 4 and no name or address for it to get there. I've been meaning to try that experiment one day!

You won't be able to come to my Christmas Brunch? I was so hoping to meet you then.

Kindest wishes,
Gracie
Oh Gracie, I am looking forward to meeting you too! You are such a wonderful representation of the Villages! You are warm and welcoming to all of us tadpoles hoping to become frogs when we grow up! Brunch sounds wonderful, but I will be working the holidays in Ca. ;-(

We will be there for our Design meeting just before Thanksgiving, then back to the real world for us. We expect to close in Feb and are hoping to make the move soon after.

I am hoping that we will get an opportunity to meet in 2014! Provided we survive the move!

Your friend,
Dotti

I have performed the experiment and it was successful. I didn't use the "plus 4." Only the five digit zip code. The mail was delivered to the proper residence.

You should always put the name and address on the envelope. Even if the machine reads it right, the letter carrier isn't a machine and would still need that info. If the machine mis-reads the zip plus 4 it would be a long time before this piece of mail shows up. If you go to the USPS web site and enter your address it will tell you whether it is right or not and correct it if need be. Don't go by what is on GPS.

If Hillsborough is 32163, then Gilchrist should also be 32163. Sanibel is also 32163.

Not necessarily. The postal service determines the boundaries. Where I lived up North, the zip code caress the street from out house was different. When you look up the zip codes from USPS they read

32159. Preferred city, Lady Lake, acceptable city. The Villages
32163. Preferred City. The Villages
34785. Preferred City. Wildwood

I tried Google Maps to see what the results would be.

When I input my address with the zip code 32163 the correct map appears and there is a red dot with the letter A.

However, when I click on that dot, the zip is shown as Wildwood 34785

I wonder if the area south of 466A was part of 34785 prior to being acquired by the developer?
