Default Luggage Repair?

Does anyone know where I can get a piece of luggage repaired that was damaged by a cruise line?

What is broken? If it is a wheel, these are usually easy to replace, if this is a tear or broken zipper repair may be much more difficult.

I worked for an airline and over the years my bags took quite a beating. I used to get them repaired at a company near the Tampa Airport. After I retired, I needed luggage repaired but didn’t want to drive back and forth to Tampa. I contacted that same company I had used for years and arranged to UPS the bag(s) to them, they repaired and UPS them back to me…highly recommend…very reasonable.

The retractable handle used to pull the bag was broken off.

Mine stopped retracting so I took it all apart and found a broken plastic bar. Glue wouldn't hold, and the company refused to sell me a replacement bar. I eventually cobbled together a fix, but if a repair company can't get hold of the required parts you may be out of luck :-(

Buy cheap luggage. If it breaks, throw it away.

IMHO, probably not a repairable item, at least at a reasonable cost.

If something like this happens on a cruise, I recommend notifying Guest Services immediately. A few years ago, my small roller carryon was damaged during embarkation on a Celebrity cruise (a wheel was broken off). I notified Guest Services of the problem, and was pleasantly surprised to find a brand new comparable bag in my stateroom the evening of our first port stop. The cruise line obviously sent someone ashore, and purchased a new bag for me. I also now carry a small roll of Gorilla tape when we travel, just in case. You know, s@#t happens.

We have Delsey Luggage that developed zipper issues. Delsey has a repair center in north Orlando. We took the luggage in and since it was still under warranty, they handed us a new set of luggage. They did say that if it had not been under warranty they would have repaired.

We switched to a rolling duffle bag that is light weight (helps staying under 50# weight) and has retracted wheels, less likely to break off.

Also now carry our luggage on and off the ship, tired of paying a tip and having luggage destroyed or damaged.

As a result only airlines now have a chance to destroy our luggage.
