Lowe's advertises that it gives veterans a 10% discount. This is a false statement.
They will not accept a DD-214 as proof of service. They say that they only accept a Department of Veterans Affairs health ID card. If you are a veteran, you cannot get a VA ID card if you don't have some service related disability or if you have too much income. This discriminates against veterans who managed to do well enough with their lives after serving our country to have some financial security. Any of us who served should not be discriminated against. |

1) To qualify you must be currently serving in, or retired from a qualifying branch of the Armed Forces or be a member of someone who is and have a valid Military ID card... Of course dependents of active duty and retired military qualify for the 10% discount all they need to do is produce it at the time of purchase. 2) Be a Veteran who receives VA Benefits and have a valid Veteran Identification Card ... ( VC ).... 3) Now on certain Holiday times of the year they " Lowes " and " Home Depot " extend this 10% discount to all Veterans...Memorial Day...July 4th...and Veterans Day... 4) Finally Lowe's or Home Depot are Not Discriminating against you or any Veteran however, that is their policy..not any different then " It's in the Regulations " .. You simply do not qualify. |

I totally agree. Never had a problem with Lowes, just show them my VA ID card and they applied my 10% discount. Many of the Lowe's employees said "Thanks for your service." Had some Home Depot stores tell me the discount only applied on certain holidays, but now they have changed and except the ID card any day, any purchase. If the OP wants a ID card he can apply for VA medical enrollment. Once accepted he will receive a VA ID card w/photo. It doesn't matter how much money you make, you will be put into a certain category depending upon your income.

The discounts are well thought out and legal. If you qualify with the clearly expressed rules , you are eligible.

I agree with the Original post. Years ago VA medical benefits where not based on Financial wealth and may people enrolled today are quite well off and still use the VA. Today when after many years have gone by the VA has decided to grandfather those people and deny others they deem financially fit.

The point is that Lowe's says that they offer a 10% discount to veterans.
I am a veteran and they will not honor my DD-214. |

Lowes and the Home Depot discounts are NOT for veterans, they are for active & retired military-very clear. I'm a retired USN-R submariner, thru the reserves.
These stores make it very clear when they offer their discounts to veterans. Had a buddy who was with the NY Air Nat Guard, he was shot down doing a photo recon over Cuba during the missile crisis- NOT A Vet, he was picked up by air sea rescue off of Key West. Be happy you're alive & living--lots of vets, especially those exposed to Agent Orange were not that lucky. Home Depot is one of the most generous companies in the event of a disaster, If some one could post , what Home Depot, did for Moore,Ok when they where hit by a tornado--no one , should say anything negative about that company |

How about the " V" on my FL. drivers Lic. I had to produce my Honorable Discharge & my DD214 for the DMV to get it. Will they honor that if you show them your Drivers Lic.

This is very odd?
I have a veterans card from the VA and I show it to either store and they give me a 10% discount every time, no questions asked or had them deny my discount? They can not combine the discount with a sale price or a special offer. Though I complained to Home Depot about my 10% via email and they gave the extra discount after a carpet special. I know you need the ID card but I have never heard of anyone that couldn't get one ? I went down to my local VA office with my DD-214 and they issued me a card right away. I would call your local VA office and get the card. One time Home Depot only gave the discount if you were a disabled vet but they stopped that and give it to any vet now regardless of disability status. I would definitely get the card asap. Many stores offer a discount you just ask them and the worst they could say is no. Good Luck And Thanks for Serving |

To all that disagree with Lowe's and Home discount policy to Active Duty Military, their Dependents, Retired Military their Dependents and those Veterans who qualify,...those Vet's feel that they are discriminated against this what you need to do.
Google Lowe's ... and Home Depot Military Discount Policy ..it spells it out very clear. So clear that when you were serving way back when..Remember checking the Regulations on most any given subject..for whatever reason the reg. spelled it out. So like it or not it's what the reg. stated, you agree or not if you felt you were getting a raw deal, well that's part life in the Military, simply put You had no choice but to accept it and move on. The policies of both stores are no different than those regulations. Obviously some of you feel slighted that it states " Veteran Discount " , and taking that as Verbatim... " All " Veterans. In the case of Veterans it absolutely spells out crystal clear to those Veterans what ID they need to produce at the time of purchase. Deal with it !!
