Default Looking to donate a mattress

RESOLVED! Habitat for Humanity is picking it up Monday. Thanks @Bubblesandpat for the reminder. There are folks in need who need stuff that we consider trash.

Was trying to give away FREE an A+ condition barely used hybrid mattress that was in a guestroom on another local area forum and you would think, from the questions I get, the "FREE" was $500. Sadly not worth the hassle dealing with these folks.

Question is (other than having the trash folks come and pick it up which I guess is the simplest option) is there any place or charity that will come and PICK UP a queen mattress as a donation? I called a few and they don't take mattresses. I'd rather donate it than junk it but I just want to get it out of here. Our 2/2 doesn't have lots of free walls to lean it on and it doesn't look great in the livingroom!!

Anyone know of a Church or organization that takes them?

Put it in the trash. No one wants a used mattress.

. I get what you are saying but that's not quite true but will likely end up doing just that. It's a shame, it's been used maybe 10 times in our guest room. Looks brand new. There are people who actually aren't fussy, don't care, and don't have unlimited funds. Everyone isn't in the same position as most of us here in TV.

It's a little work, but I put one out leaning against the garage door with a FREE sign on it. It was gone the same day, in a few hours. Especially if you are in an area of recent construction where there are a lot of workers in the area. Some lawn care companies pick up stuff like that. I did this two days before garbage day so if it was not gone, I would move it to the garbage by the street. I doubt you will find any organization that will come get it.

Try Bargains and Blessings in Wildwood. They might take it. I don't know if the thrift store (behind Wal-Mart on 466) takes used mattresses or not, but it might be worth a call.

Otherwise (assuming it is a nice day) put it out by the curb on the afternoon before your scheduled trash pickup. There seems to be a cottage industry here (maybe several) that has people driving around neighborhoods looking for discarded items. I've discarded several items that way: a table, box of wine glasses, numerous other things. They barely last an hour.

I don't know around here but in NC I donated a mattress to Habitat. They required it had no rips or stains and be in fairly good shape. They use a cleaning process before selling. They picked up at our house. Again not sure if it's the same here...

they don't care. we tried to do the same with a bed 'never used' (frame & headboard included), & was told that no mattresses are collected @ any time for any reason. we ended up giving it away to a friend of my daughters who was in need.

You can't just move it to garbage by the street - they won't take it. You have to call to schedule a pickup for a large item, and they charge a fee.

They don't take large stuff without a call for an appointment, at least in our area (just north of 466A). $10 fee but NBD. If ONE of the 120 people who said "I REALLY WANT IT" shows up I'll just junk it. Biggest problem seems to be for them finding transport and 2 people to help them as I won't/can't/

Will give them a call. Thanks. Really a shame to junk it. Looks like new without a mark on it.

Unfortunately, we're in a sleepy little corner of TV with no construction nearby but that would have been a great idea. Lots of stuff we put out for trash is quickly swept up at 3-4AM buy folks in $70K SUV's! I love watching my driveway cam videos the next morning.

First Baptist Church Thriftstore - Leesburg

I've given lots of stuff to them, and I like browsing the store.
I'll tell you what I like about them; they simply say Thank You , , , .

(more than I can say for goodwill, or habitat's "put it over there, no not there.")
