Default Lighthouse Seafood

Bought some shrimp from Lighthouse Seafood on 466. I am not one to buy seafood from roadside cooler salesmen but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, the shrimp was great. Anyone else had good or bad experiences?

Thumbs up Lighthouse Seafood

Yes, finally got around to buying from them today... Super clean, and all is nicely packaged as well. Had the salmon for dinner...yum! Hope the shrimp, and lobster are as good.

We've bought from them several times. Never disappointed in the quality. A word of warning, though. Don't buy the key lime pie. It is very addictive. We bought one and thought we would cut it in quarters (the pie is about 6-7" round). It was gone in seconds! If you want one, go early. The pies go quickly.

Also, if there is some seafood you want that they don't have in the coolers, ask. They may be able to bring it the next trip. They have a seafood market in Lake Mary and don't bring everything they carry up here, but will bring special requests if you ask.

Default Lighthouse Seafood?

Where is Lighthouse Seafood? I gather it is a truck or stand? Love shrimp so would like to try it out. Thanks for directions.

They have an unbelievable variety! After 2 days, they smoke it so what he sells is really fresh. He gets it on the east coast of FL somewhere. Since he gets it early and wraps it he's not often there before 11am. He's located in the same area as the fresh produce place east of Hampton Inn on 466. There's often a BBQ business there too. Boy is that ever good too!!

Thanks. I'll check it out next week. I'm assuming that's in the grove with the produce store between Morse and Rolling Acres Rd. on the north side of the road. Stopped for produce last trip but didn't notice any seafood. Will look more closely this trip.

They are only there Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at this point. Great seafood and the pies, well, they're delicious if you are a key lime pie lover...

The seafood is very good. They are part of a store that's located in Lady Lake on STE 127. The produce market is good too.

This "gonnabee" is even more excited!! As close as we are here in Montgomery to the Gulf, I always scratch my head why Publix shrimp comes from Vietnam, or somewhere similar. Gulf shrimp is hard to beat! This whole thread has my mouth watering!! Thank you all!!!

Thumbs down Foreign Shrimp!

I was buying shrimp at the Winn Dixie in Dunnellon once and asked the question why they did not have shrimp from Florida. The clerks answer was that the shrimp in the waters around Florida does not meet their standards. Winn Dixie at the time was importing from China! So possibly this stands true with Publix as well. Just saying!!! Is there anything that does not come from that part of the world that we consume>>??

Monterrey Bay Aquarium's website has a section that lists safe and sustainable seafood by name and origin. Also, seafood to avoid because of poor fishing and farming practices. I think it says that the Thailand shrimp are okay but avoid shrimp from Mexico. The best is wild caught from the northwest U.S.
