Default Internet Provider

My current internet provider, Spectrum is reducing my promotional discount that will increase my monthly payment from $71.98 to $86. I only use the internet for the security cameras and thermostat. I do not have tv or phone service. Any suggestions for another provider is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Without knowing the speed you are paying for, it is impossible to answer your question. It's like asking how much does a car cost?

I had an Xfinity 2 year promo as a new resident for $55. I went into the store near Spanish Springs and chatted with them about my options. I walked out at $35 for one year 300mb speed (tests mid 300’s typically) and a very ample data limit. I’ll certainly go chat again next August. I have had zero problems with them and their equipment, which was/is included with the above price.

I’d chat with Spectrum, tell them it’s gotten too expensive and you are shopping other providers. I’d guess they want to keep you.

If it matters I’m in Marsh Bend.

I have the same service with the one year contract with xfinity, which expires next month. Looks like I’ll be having to renegotiate a new contract with them soon. I’m going to return their modem/router and purchase one. At $15 per month rental, the new modem/router will be paid off in one year. The 300mb service has been all the speed we need. We never buffer when streaming YouTube TV or Netflix.

If you live in a Village with fiber, that's the way to go. If you have Quantum Fiber, depending on when you call, you can get a minimum of 500mb/s up and down for $35/month all in.

May depend on WHERE you live, in TV. Only 2 available internet providers in Shady Brook. Spectrum & Centric Fiber. Centric was $40 for 100mb/s. Spectrum was $30 for 100Mb/s. Anything faster was more money…

You can't compare Spectrum or any cable company to a fiber company like Centric or Quantum. With cable, your data capacity is Shared meaning your speeds will vary depending on how many of your neighbors are using the system at the same time. This is why some people complain they are getting buffering when streaming TV at prime time and all other times everything is fine. Also, the advertised speed is Only for the download. Upload speeds don't exceed 30mbs. Also, cable companies provide TV content and have to pay for that content from ESPN, the networks, and other providers via franchise fees. These fees alway increase over time and the cable company has no choice but to pass this on to the consumer which is why they try to increase you bill.

With Fiber, you have a dedicated link to the provider meaning no sharing of bandwidth and you get the advertised speed Both upload and download. They don't provide content so there are no franchise fees to force them to increase your bill over time.

At the end of the day if you can get both cable and fiber services, Always go with the fiber serivce. It's always going to be cheaper and more reliable in the long run.

Looks like you must be paying for the 1000 Mbps speed. 300 Mbps is all most people need. Starts at $50 for first year, then $65.

You know it depends. Like most companies it depends on what time of day you call and which call center you get to. Sometimes I get great technical support and other times not so much and have to call back in. But I can say once everything is set up, there is usually no reason to call them and they have a great web site where you can do almost everything including sending equipment back to them. It creates the UPS label and everything.

When you have internet issues the first thing a provider will do is blame the problem on your modem and router, not their service. It may be a bit more expensive to rent in the long run, but wheel a problem occurs you can just switch out for replacement equipment. Since new technology keeps coming you’ll get upgraded if a switch out is needed.
