Default Handicap Golf Cart

Why is it that I can't find a handicap golf cart? Why hasn't someone invented an easy access golf cart for someone who is in a wheelchair fulltime.

I have seen a few photos, but not one single concept that I am trying to find. As some of you know, I have a paralyzed step parent- he arrived yesterday! I was so disappointed to realize he can't transfer to the golf cart. It is too steep to use transfer board. Maybe a low ride golf cart? Not sure? His wheelchair seat level is 21".

I called the Mobility store in Ocala (who have tons) and spoke to someone who told me my idea hasn't been invented. I need an engineer to help me!

I see the seats of cars that electronically swivel out and then lower--that is what I want for the golf cart using a golf cart bucket seat. I would even love to find a four seater all seats forward to remove front seat and have a lift get the wheelchair in the cart. Again- told by Mobility and other companies they haven't seen it. Geesh--I think with this population someone could come up with the ability to make some serious money to sell golf carts (in this type of community) that would assist with wheelchair passengers!

Any suggestions--Thank you!

Tracey - I'd recommend you contact the Wounded Warrior Project. My wife and I assisted in a fund-raiser for them and the intent was to purchase accessible golf carts with seats that swivel. I know they are made and available - just not sure where or for how much!

Tracy -- The Villages have handicap golf carts available to those individuals that need them. I saw them a couple of times being utilized on the Exec. courses.

I may not have the information correct, but I believe that you have to contact the closest country club if you want to play an exec course and reserve the cart for the day and tee time you are scheduled for. AN employee of the country club or an ambassador will deliver the cart before your tee time and will bring it back to the country club when you finish the round.

I suggest that you contact one of The Villages country clubs for further information.

I have a related problem. I am in a wheelchair but am able to stand and rotate my body into the cart. However my companion hasn't the strength to lift the wheelchair onto the back (golf club area) to strap it in. What do other folks do?

The above post is correct. Contact a country club.

I've seen some cart with mobility chair lifts mounted on the back of the cart. Should also work for a wheelchair, including a motorized one.

The seat you are referring to is made by Braun...the company that makes and installs ramps into vans for wheelchairs.

Before I moved to TheVillages, I did some research online, and found a couple of golf carts with wheelchair access. Have you "googled" handicapped accessible golf carts?

We found that we don't need one right now, but I did see a couple.

Good luck
