Hi there,

Could someone out there guesstimate how long it will take
us to go by golf cart to the new Brownwood Square from LSL?
We are trying to decide between an electric or gas golf cart.
We have used an electric cart and just loved it but some
people have told us it would not be suitable for going the
distance to Brownwood. Your advice would be appreciated.

30 minutes for 6 miles or so given traffic and all

Just to throw out an example, we often take our electric cart from home to Lowe's without stopping. Hubby says it's a 9 mile trip one way.
No problem.

Hedoman's already got my best estimate - 30 minutes........maybe 35. Depends on how fast you're going in your cart.

Similar to previous response, we take our electric Ezgo from home near Bonita Blvd to Lowes Hardware, way beyond the Historic district up north, and back with no problem. That's 16 miles round trip.

Most electric carts should be good for 30 to 60 miles on a charge. The new Ezgo Hybrid claims 150 miles.

We take our electric GEM from our home in Alhambra to my mother-in-law's home in St. Charles (exactly nine miles) and it takes us about 25 minutes. We do travel on Buena Vista for most of it, so I assume it would take a little longer on the cart paths. Range is not an issue as we get about 30 miles per charge and this trip is only 18 miles. We occasionally plug it in at her house if we are going to do any additional errands when we are down south (like going over to Colony).

it's a straight run down buena vista I'd say 25-30 is a good estimate, should be a beautiful drive too..

electric or gas will not be the determinate of time it takes to get there as the speeds are (supposed to be) fixed. In any case depend on whether you go 19 or 23 in either mode it will be a minute or two difference.

Electric or gas MIGHT enter into what to buy depending on the distances you plan to travel the most.

Thanks to all of you who responded so quickly.
We really do prefer the electric cart but a
salesman tried to talk us out of it because he
said the gas ones will take us longer distances.
We really only travel to Walmart and would
probably visit Brownwood once in a while
depending on which stores go in.

For what you do electric will be ok for you especially since you prefer it. You'll be fine. What your salesman was saying was true. Just for the heck of it I did a little computing. My Yamaha gets over 44 mpg and holds over 6 gals of gas. According to Mapquest I could, if there were a golf cart path, make 2 round trips to the Orlando Intl Airport. Also, if I got nervous about being low on gas, I could gas up somewhere or carry a small gallon can of gas with me. You can't do that with batteries.

The Distance available to those driving electric carts will obviously vary depending on the weight being carried, speed, weather factors, (temp, wind, etc) number of batteries incluidng age and quality of maintenance and the topgraphy. I have six batteries and can travel approx 25 miles per one trip and the meter stays on the white (charged) section.

this thread makes me think that it is time for an entrepreneur to start-up a business near town centers for golf cart charging stations! could hire attendants to plug-in and disconnect carts and charge for the service by set time periods.

I think we need to get solar panels on our roof tops and charge while we drive & park in this sunshine.

The prices will come down in very near future.
