Default Electrical outlet over kitchen cabinet not working

I tried to use this outlet today for the first tie and it is not live. There are 3 wires to the rear, live, neutral and earth. No voltage on them. I read somewhere about needing to switch the ceiling lights on but that didn't work. Is there some other switch? Any ideas?

I think its an outlet for over cabinet lights. It is powered by a switch. Not sure where your switch, in my Gardenia, it is outside the laundry room, near the switch for the dining room and that overhead light.

This is typically a SWITCHED outlet, in our house there is a switch with a BLUE dot on it that controls the outlet. Try this, plug in a lamp that is known to be in the ON position, then go to all of the switches in the vicinity of the kitchen and see which one controls the outlet. Due to the location of this outlet it is typically NOT on a GFCI.
Hope this helps.

Our switch (an Aspen) is under the wine rack, next to the refrigerator...

100% switched outlet - turn all switches on in the kitchen and you'll find it have fun, I'm trying to undo mine, wiring technique is horrible in these builds

There is a (red dot) switch on the bank of switches in your kitchen that runs the outlets above the cabinets. Check to see that it is switched on.

He is in Palo Alto village and the house was built in the “dark ages” so typical wiring patterns may not apply. Possibly someone ran a wire up from one of the gfi countertop outlets. It would be nice if the OP would let us know the results

The plugs over the cabinets can be turned off and on by a switch in the dining room area. I put tape over mine as I hid my router on top of the cabinets

I think my GFI outlet is in the garage, now hidden behind some built in cabinets, but still accessible

Any outlet within 48" of water, or outside anywhere, or anywhere in the garage is a gfci outlet.

There is a separate switch on the wall that controls that outlet
