With summer coming up this is a great idea! Summer is very hard on small dogs walking on or near pavement, if more people put out water it would be nice.

When I we got home I put a water bowl out front and a sealed container with treats and poop bags in it.
As a dog owner and dog lover this is a lovely idea. I hate to rain on the parade but there is a respiratory virus that is prevalent in southern Florida so I would avoid sharing water with dogs I don’t know. It is a lovely idea though.

I think you are talking about canine parvovirus. It is prevalent in most "warm" places. Most vets will recommend the vaccine if it is prevalent in their area. And if a dog has it and is walked in your neighborhood, or dog park, it can spread easily from plants and grass and other surfaces where they do their business. Or if infected dogs "say hello" to a non-infected dog. It is a VERY contagious disease.

The water bowl IS another vector. If you put one out you should clean it daily for sure. If you are concerned for your dog, you should be very careful where you walk it. And, be very careful about dog sitters, or boarding. A long time ago there was a major outbreak in CA. When we visited a breeder we were required to spray our legs and wash our shoes in disinfectant prior to entering her property, since people going from breeder to breeder was found to be a transmission vector.

If your dog is not vaccinated, you should talk to your vet and I expect they will suggest you get it, but your vet would know if it is currently active in this area.

I always leave out cold beers for the dogs and their human walking slaves.

I like that, maybe we could encourage more people to walk by putting out wet bars! Increase community spirit and promote healthy walking!

That may have been me by accident & I didn’t see a way to undo my ‘like’

Don't expect neighbors to provide food, water, toilet facilities (that means "keep off the neighbors grass, no excuses!"), etc. When you got a dog (or any pet) you and you alone became responsible for it, 100% of the time.
Who said it was expected? You’re twisting this and blowing it out of proportion

Only from "certain" people...

Just curious, did you reply to this before reading all the rest of the posts? I, like most, have more than one here. Might make a difference if you read all before responding, or not.
Check my 25 and 27.

Agree, lovely thought, but very potentially bad practice.

We don't walk him on the streets because too many of our neighbors walk their tiny dogs, and if he got "excited" it might scare the little dogs owners - our neighbors.

But, you are welcome to come over and meet him anytime you want - just walk in to our backyard through the gate unannounced. I saw him chase a pack of coyotes away from our goats once, I expect he would enjoy meeting you.

But, thank you very much for calling me a lair, I hope you have a nice day.
Oh I don’t know maybe the FACT that you changed usernames on this site throws a little shade Grumpy

Would you have preferred he call you a "den"?
