My mother-in-law has a small collection of Hummel figurines that she will be bringing to TV. She has stated that she wants to sell them but I don't know if they have any value at all. Some of them are from the 70's.

Had a neighborhood garage sale last month. Priced my Hummels at $5 each - none sold. Same with Norman Rockwell figurines & collector plates. My Emmett Kelly clowns sold, though...go figure.

Thanks..that's kinda what I figured. She seems to think they are valuable. I have never collected anything (except mismatched socks when my kids were small!).

Look on ebay, the older ones might have some value, you can tell the age from the mark and the color of the mark. The qvc ones will be different.
I sold some Fenton glass after qvc and it still sold for a good price to collectors. Mine was vintage (unmarked) the newer stuff was marked. I don't know if 1970's Hummels are considered all that old, I remember my Mother having them before that. I think subject matter and size have a lot to do with the value.

We had about 20 hummels before we moved. Most were from the 70's. They went to 2 different auction houses. Sold for about 20% of what I paid for them. Hope you do better.

The story of collectables, especially those that have been produced in large quantities is sad. I tried to sell uncirculated american stamps collected in the 1940-60 era and barely recouped face value; same for Hummels, coins china etc. Most sell for less than 20% of purchase price- in my experience.

Tastes have changed, you don't see knick-knacks and stuff all over the place as much.
What seems to be worth money is not the stuff that was "collected", that was preserved. What's worth money is the stuff we actually used, it got broken and thrown out whenever we moved-that's what is hard to find. Our old toys that we actually played with are sometimes worth money because they're gone.

I used to buy Hummels for a friends wife as a gift as she loved them.
They are both deceased so I wonder what happened to them. Hopefully, thier children have them in their homes as a memento of their parents. I'll have to ask. they were expensive when I purchased them. I always thought they would increase in value as years went by but from what I see from this thread, I guess not.

New Hummels are made by a different company. You must also make a distinction between genuine "M.I. Hummells" cast by Goebels and the fakes. Check for the stamp. They should be worth more than the knockoffs. Don't be too quick to get rid of them.
On the other hand, the Hummel figurine were just popular with the Americans. Only sold in tourist trap stores. We prefer Holz figurine. |

Many go without any bids on EBay.

If you're checking on ebay it's a good idea to go into "advanced search" and see what they actually sold for.
Again, you can't determine the worth of something without the makers mark.

Were you able to locate the authentification mark along the border of your piece which is etched into the clay itself with the Hummel logo? Also on the bottom has the bee emblem which dates your piece with the authenticity and period of when it was manufactured. I am responding on my husbands posting and I have purchased a book by Miller with the price and more info you will need to better sell you Hummel Figurines. They are worth more than a couple of dollars if authentic do not let anyone make you sell them cheap without more research on your part.
