About 8 this morning they started working on the house 2 doors up from us. Why they are even trying to fix it up amazes me, it has been abandoned for years. Are there any rules about them working on Sunday? Normally I wouldn't care, but they are being very loud!

I think it is funny that some of you think I am an older curmudgeon because I asked a legitimate question, I am only 58. That being said we have only lived here for 9 months and just wanted to know if there were any restrictions on times of construction. They really weren't doing much work, just yelling at each other. The house is being flipped and is very small, I only hope who ever buys it knows it was full of black mold and mildew!

They're back! There is a stop work order for this house and now they are back trying to get shingles on the roof on a Sunday. I guess they figure no inspector would be working on a Sunday. To answer earlier posts this house has not been on the market and I guess it was so bad the two groups doing the rebuilding over here didn't want it. Rumor has it that it sold at auction for 15k but also had a 30k lein against it. The person who bought it is just trying to flip it, not live in it. It will be a nightmare for the poor soul who buys it.

A stop work order is issued by the local governments, and it means that you stop doing the work. In this case there were no permits issued for the work being done. You will see a red letter stuck in the window. I will say something if asked, but everyone else should do their jobs first.

What would be the difference with Sunday verses Saturday or Tuesday?
If I was their neighbor, I would assume they are fixing the house up to make it better than it has been and thus increase the value of that property (and the others nearby). Possibly they are younger than you were when you moved here...and now everything they do seems amazing and very loud! |

As far as I know, there is no Villages regulation that stipulates contractors cannot work on Sunday. If you have concerns about the 8 am time or Sunday work, just call The Villages main number or Community Watch. Either of them would be able to tell you the real scoop.
Chances are that someone bought the house from the bank - if it has been empty for years - and is fixing it up before moving in. Sounds like a winner! The dude next door to me uses a contractor to cut his yard. It is done on Sunday afternoons as the mower has a weekday job and can only work on weekends. Industrious worker, I would say. |

I've heard lawn people out on an occasional sunday morning in our neighborhood.

Dang! Seems we are danged if we do and danged if we don't take care of our property around here! Talk about not being able to please all of the folks all of the time! Sheesh!

6 years ago when we were renting in Hadley, crews were working under spotlights putting on a roof at 6am on a Sunday.... and they had obviously been working awhile before I drove past!

I agree that construction noise and lawn mowing noise can be annoying. The good part about it is that it is temporary and will go away. The other good part about it is that they are fixing up an abandoned house in your neighborhood. I would be jumping for joy about that. Abandoned properties bring down property values.

Maybe someone bought it to live in. Maybe they are hoping to fix it up to standards and sell it. I know it can be annoying. I wait till the afternoon before doing anything outside so others can have a peaceful morning.

To our grandchildren in their 20's you ARE an older curmudgeon. And what does age have to do with anything? Around here we say 58 or BETTER. ![]()
