Default CenturyLink internet problems

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with their CenturyLink internet connection over the past three weeks - web and e-mail?

Loading web pages is very slow, or gives an error message saying that the page doesn't exist (yet a simple refresh then loads it)

I have also sent myself several test e-mails and they have taken over an hour to get back to me.

Plus the connection gets dropped completely at least once an hour.

It is not my desktop computer at fault, as the same thing happens when I connect with my laptop.

Thanks

Yes, same thing here. It did get better for a while, now back to being slow. DSL report shows only a speed of between 3 and 4 on uploads. Far way from 10.

Same thing here.Early this morning eve the TV was screwed up only the local channels were working. Internet has been way to slow. I've only got 1 week left going back to Comcast even though I'll pay more. This has been the longest year with centurylink. What a waste. Maybe the new side is better with the Fiber to the house but my service stinks!!

I live north of 466 and there were some cables being buried along our road in the summer, but no info about what they were for - here's hoping!

Odd thing is, when I run a speed test I seem to be getting what I am paying for. However, during real world usage...

Nope! We live in T.V. south of 466 between Malory and Hemingway! No issues with computers, t.v.'s or the phone.

My computer runs very very slow for online gaming and loading up email. Try calling Century Link and you get "Todd" in India who is clueless...

I'm in Mission Hills and am also experiencing problems. The Prism was very messed up 2 weeks ago and we were continually having to reboot the whole system several times a day. They were finally able to fix that problem. No sooner was that fixed, then the Internet connection started going down quite a few times every day......always between 9-10 pm and numerous other times. It finally (last few days) seems to be resolved.

Default Century link

We have been having the same problem ever since it was hooked up. We have had the tech out 3 times and still can't find the problem. Speed test shows 9.4 down and .8 upload. They say that is correct. Century link list their internet speed at 10 Mbps which in reality is only 1.2 MBps. Mbps means Megabits and MBps means megabytes, it takes 8 megabits to make 1 megabyte. Our computers are so slow, just like dial up or slower. I have changed our wireless computers to wired and no difference. Our wireless TV wi-fi won't stream a movie from Netflix, it says the internet is too slow. I am waiting for an answer from cooporate office.

Thanks, Dennis - please keep us posted if any developments

I shall call CenturyLink tomorrow, but I don't have any specific contact details there so am not holding my breath for a speedy resolution to the problem

Does anyone have the number of a direct line to a local CenturyLink agent?

Actually I had a very nice conversation this morning with a woman who was in Carlisle, PA..not India which is the home of their former corporate owner..Embarq.

I too have been having very slow service since they installed our set-up last Wednesday. Have run 2 speed tests per day every day since installation and speed is DISMAL. Always less than 5. Which is WAY slower than our ComCast X-Finity service in Baltimore which averaged 21.

Living in Stonecrest there are only 2 options and neither of them are good. The truly awful "CableVision of Marion County" which has an "F" rating with the Ocala Better Business Bureau and Century-Link.

Where is FIOS when you need them???

Awaiting the arrival of a technician this afternoon.

I have also noticed that even with top grade protection on my computer, I am still having to do a nightly scan and removing 8-10 threats everyday. This didn't happen with Comcast. I think we're going back to them. This Century Link internet was forced on us when we got the TV hook up.

I've posted here before about the difference in transmission speed between Century Link or any of the phone companies and the cable service provided by Comcast. I hate Comcast's clumsy customer service interface, but their internet service is more than twice as fast as Century Link's. At my house in Mallory, I get internet downloads from Comcast that are 25-26 Mbps, compared to a maximum of 10 Mbps from any of the phone line service providers. That's OK if all you intend to do is use e-mail and some light web-surfing. But if you intend to do online gaming, movie or TV watching, or heavier-duty web-surfing, it's almost a certainty that you will not be happy with Century Link or any of the phone line based internet providers.

I have CenturyLink DSL. Speed recently dropped from 10 Mbps to 5 Mbps. I called for service. The tech arrived on time, and promptly discovered that I had hooked up a fax/printer without a DSL filter. DUH. While here, he double checked the outside wiring to confirm no other issues. Can't fault that service.
