It depends what you mean by a casino. There are a few slot machine casinos on Rt 441 a few miles north of The Villages. Also there is the Oxford Downs poker room on Rt 301 just north of Rt 466.

Hard Rock Tampa and if you get that unicity card and get enough points you’ll get free hotel rooms. It’s like a smaller Vegas hotel. Warning, it’s smoking and you can smell it immediately but there’s a non smoking section on the 2nd floor.

Hard Rock Tampa is an hour away from Sawgrass. They have a hotel, restaurants, entertainment, pools, table games and slots.
Il Villagio is a tiny slot parlor. Next to WAWA in front of BJs on 441. |

There is also a nonsmoking area in the back of the first floor since they expanded.

The Seminole Nation controls the most of the legitimate casinos in the state. They pay millions to the politicians to keep all competition out of the state. There are a few horse tracks down South with slots.

Eh, campaign contributions, pacs, lobbyists. The whole caboodle. They also spent tons of cash running tv ads condemning those evil Vegas casino owners trying to expand into Florida.

If you like to play table games (except blackjack) Oxford Downs is pretty fun. They have several versions of poker, and also live tournaments for Texas Hold 'em. On Sunday and Monday, all of the table games have a $2 minimum bet instead of the usual $5.
There are also high roller tables. I was playing Ultimate Texas Hold 'em a couple months ago and a guy hit a royal flush for $19k. He gave everyone at the table a $100 tip and the dealer got $500. |
