We are getting ready to build our new house, a Lantana, and trying to figure out what type of flooring we want to do in each of the rooms. And whether or not to do it thru TV or upgrade after we move in. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When we bought Oak Floors were not an option. Don't even consider carpet. Go with Oak Floors if you can.

Why not carpeting?

We had hardwood up north and liked it, but... In TV, we have ceramic tile on the diagonal, which we really like. Carpet in the bedrooms and closets...
For us, tile just seems to fit our lifestyle better..easy to clean, no stains. Very nice, when you entertain lots of friends. No matter what you decide, you will love your home.... Cheers..... |

We are going with wood Tom not sure about the new engineered wood flooring vs our traditional solid full board flooring in our present home?

We are going with tile throughout, except for 2 of the bedrooms. Easy to take care of, no scratches (hopefully!) although I really do like real wood. It's your preference.

Wood is beautiful, but we are going with all tile on the diagonal in the whole house because our son is in a wheelchair and it is so practical. We had tile throughout our home in Hunter's Creek,Orlando except for a really nice laminate in the bedrooms......they don't do laminate here in TV except after market, so we are going with all tile.....all the same. It will look beautiful.

Our neighbor just had the carpeting removed ( 7yrs. old) and installed artificial wood laminate flooring. It looks absolutely gorgeous but since it is a dark color it shows every speck of dust. He dusts mops at least daily. Just something to consider.

On the diagonal throughout the house. Next time someone rips out carpeting look at what they find underneath it.

We are having the carpet removed from our living area and replaced with tile. I think it is easier to maintain and always looks nice and cool on the feet. Can change the look of it with area rugs.

WE have a problem with our grout on the tiles. Should have had grout sealer done before we moved in. My wife cleans the floors (mops) four times a week. With our black cat they always show cat hair. Oak floors are the way to go. We already considered replacing the tile with oak flooring down the road. We only have carpet in the bedrooms. I have seen a few model homes with Oak flooring and they really look rich.

I'll add a thought or three...
If you decide to keep carpet in the master bedroom, consider a carpet alternative for the closet floor. Less humidity (especially if it is off the master bath) and will look good and be easier care for the long term, especially if you decide to outfit the closets with cabinet-type organizers that will stand. I have used numerous types of flooring in previous homes and have been pleased with ALL...... although each has it's advantages/disadvantages. Take your knees into consideration and decide what is most comfortable in the areas where you'll be standing/walking frequently. Beautiful tile is now a killer for me in large areas. And... there's the esthetic element. What surface does your decorating style call for? Do you want the floor to set the dominant tone of your home or do you prefer the floor to subtlety enhance other features? Hope whatever you choose brings a big smile to your face! |

This is a great thread. I have often wondered what seems to be the best options for flooring. I like the post by uptown girl as it is thoughtful.
I like the idea idea of tile/hardwood flooring except in the bedrooms. Going forward, I would have to consider if my feet will tolerate the harder type flooring as they get a good pounding at the gym. ![]()
