When I moved into my first house in TV 2 years ago, I bought a LG impeller top loader and a gas dryer - 7800 series. I did not like them at all. The dryer took forever. The clothes in the top loader would float on a huge air bubble on top of the water and not get wet at all. I moved into my second home a couple of months ago and bought an LG front loader and electric dryer - 8980 series. The difference is like night and day. Both machines are very fast and do a great job.

Have a 2 year old Samsung with the impeller. Works good any have not had any problems. Would prefer front loader as it has a much faster dryer. Dryer does not make it faster. Clothes come out of washer with a lot less water.

Recently bought Maytag top load washer with center agitator with 10 year warranty. Uses less water on auto sense feature but have options low, medium or high water fill. On spin cycle items come out just damp dry quickly in dryer. Does great job cleaning clothes. Actually how soiled can clothes get being retired. Yard work clothing does very good job. The reason washer replaced was cost of repairs exceeding the cost of a new machine.

Just a suggestion to pay attention to the new dryer door opening to the left or right. The set that came with our house has the dryer on the left and it's door hinge is on the right which creates a bit of obstruction when it comes time to load from the washer on the right.

Last year we bought a GE agitator washer and a GE dryer and we love them. We now buy all of our appliances from Best Buy. If you find the price any lower anywhere else, they will match it. A member of the Geek Squad who is trained on setting up appliances will deliver it and set it up. Also, if you ever need repair, GE parts are easier to get.

Two weeks ago we bought a GE 4.5 cu. ft. Capacity Washer with Water Level Control (Model # GTW585BSVWS) and a GE 7.4 cu. ft. GAS Dryer with Sensor Dry (Model # GTD58GBSVWS). We love everything about both of these appliances. The washer has an agitator which was one of our criteria. Another was being able to control the water level. This washer has a window so you can see the level of water as it fills. The dryer has a window and a light. Highly recommend both the washer and dryer.

Top loaders go out of balance easily especially with bulky items. From loaders are all I will use. GE models have a good service record

I bought a Whirlpool 2 in 1 model in November from Lowe’s. There is a removable agitator. When I need the space for large bulky items or delicates I simply take out the agitator. Will do my king size comforters easily. Love it.

If you are looking for washers & dryers that perform well, and are reliable...repairmen would steer you towards Whirlpool and Maytag. Both have an excellent reputation for performance and durability, and both brands are still made in the USA, if that matters to you. Maytag, by the way, is owned by Whirlpool.
