Exclamation Beware duplicate toll charges

Toll roads gotcha?

Good News! E-ZPass now works on toll-roads throughout Florida (see Interoperability – Florida's Turnpike).

Bad news: If you have both E-ZPass and SunPass on your car windshield, you may be double-charged for FL tolls.
Therefore, it is important to have only one transponder in your vehicle to avoid duplicate charges.

You only need one of the following to travel to all 19 states: an E-ZPass, E-Pass Xtra, UNI, or the new $15 SunPass PRO. If you already have any E-ZPass, you’re all set.
Note: The regular SunPass transponders (SunPass Portable and SunPass Mini sticker) only work in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

I'd rather use the EZ Pass but I currently have a sunpass window sticker. I wish we could just transfer the funds from one to the other. Then I'd get that sticker off, and only be out the $5 I paid for the sticker instead of the $20 toll credit.

I ALSO have an EZ pass transponder with $30 in toll credit loaded on it, that I have to remove from my car whenever I drive in Florida. Otherwise I get charged on both. That's why I'd rather have JUSt the EZPass - because I got the Sunpass before EZ Pass was valid in Florida.

Last time I was in Florida, many places were taking ez pass except going directly to Orlando Airport which was Sunpass only. This too has changed?

Will Sunpass work in the Northeast area now such as NY and MA.

Unless "last time" was recently EZ_PASS was not taken on ALL toll roads here EXCEPT that one road between The turnpike and the Airport and maybe another 1 or 2. No, it's not reciprocal unless you get the new Sunpass Pro or whatever it is called. Oh EZ-PASS and all of the others will NOT work in South Carolina. For some unknown reason they don't participate, at least as of 2 months ago..

I recently transferred the balance of funds on my NJ EZ pass to my new SunPass Pro - easy to do online. We just traveled to NJ with our new SunPass Pro and it worked fine on all roads and bridges. Makes things a lot less complicated!

It's not cost-effective for SC to participate in EZPass. Participating states pay administrative costs, and SC only has two toll roads; the Southern Connector in Greenville, and the X-Island Pkwy on Hilton Head Island. The rest of the state has no tolls at all.

Connecticut is also a toll-less state.
