There are other threads on this topic. Do a search. In my opinion, it is not a good idea to have someone clean the flexible ducts in your attic. The duct can be damaged by the cleaning equipment and cause an air leak that will be very difficult to locate and repair. Also, the flexible ducts have so many nooks and crannies that the cleaning process will not be effective. It is a good idea to have your dryer vent cleaned. It is a solid metal duct and keeping it cleaned can prevent a fire. A good contractor for this service is Covenant, 352-308-9243, Desmond Harris.

I agree with above, and will go a little further, as i will never have the flexible ducts cleaned, the air handler, the intact and exhaust vents can be cleaned. Do your research on this.

You would need to contact an HVAC company, but I am sure this will not be cheap, and this will disturb the blown in insulation, which will be another cost to repair.
IMHO, I believe the bottom line, is use the correct MERV filter for your HVAC and change it at the specified intervals. Ours is a MERV 11, and every 6 months. Then schedule the periodic cleaning of the air handler.

Remove your filter, crank up the A/C, spray a can of Lysol into the system and let it run for a few minutes. Shut the system down and put in a new filter. Ducts are now both cleaned and disinfected. Easy peasy.

To any of the people that have had their FLEXIBLE air ducts cleaned, I would like to hear exactly how this was done to avoid damage to the ducts, like a tear or puncture. I have looked at the duct work in our attic and i see no way this can be done safely. The hose has to be rigid enough to be pushed through the ducts, but flexible enough to follow the routing of the duct work Pictures would be great, at least a detailed description of the equipment and methods used.

When I had my ducts cleaned at my primary house up north, I seem to recall they cut a hole in my vent in the basement, created a vacuum somehow and sucked all the dirt out.
The duct work is way too large to get a broom type item into the ducts. |
