Default Adding a name to the deed

Can anyone tell me how to add a name onto my deed? Have heard tax collector office may be place to start. Thought I would ask this wealth of experience if anyone had done it recently. No mortgage on property, if that matters

You can go to an attorney to have the new deed drafted. It then needs to be recorded at the county seat. You can take it there yourself if you need it to be done right away. That's my understanding.

Please speak to an Attorney. Adding a person to a deed may vary by state and something you need to do when well informed. It may help save on taxes, but may also put you at risk. The house becomes joint property. You may want to ask the Attorney what happens if the person put on the deed is in an accident. Is your house at risk? I don't have answers and only questions. Please protect yourself.

H! When I added Patrick I just went to a local Title Company. They made the change and filed the recording. This is probably the easiest way. Forget the $$, but couldn't have been a big deal, or I would remember...haha.

Thank you all for your help on this topic. And thanks for the link, Bogie Shooter. It all helped, and will take care of this soon. And thanks for the thought provoking questions to be considered.

We put our son on a deed with a rental property he worked side by side with us to rehab. Our son had no financial stake in the property only sweat equity. The house became part of HIS divorce settlement. It was potentially an ugly situation, but our now former daughter in law recognized how unfair her Attorney's greed had become. We are not in Florida, we did not have a bad outcome, but a few restless nights of little sleep.

I was on the deed to my parents house and it was a blessing when they passed.

These are two first hand experiences.

I wish you the best of luck. Things always seem to work out for the best in the end.

If you add someone to your deed and they get sued you could lose your home.

OK
Lots of tax and legal problems to consider for others.
A realtor may be able to do it.
